At the latest dated comparison available here, PEPE had not flipped SHIB. An Early Thunder comparison using CoinGecko data fetched October 2, 2026, put PEPE’s market capitalization at $1.87 billion and SHIB’s at $3.48 billion—a $1.61 billion gap. That is a dated snapshot, not a live quote or a prediction of what happens next.
“Flip” means overtaking SHIB by market capitalization, not reaching the same price per token. No forecast establishes that PEPE will do so. The price targets discussed below are PrimeXBT’s estimates, not an expert consensus or a guarantee.
What does it mean for PEPE to flip SHIB?
A flippening in this comparison would mean PEPE’s total market value overtakes SHIB’s. Market capitalization is generally calculated by multiplying a token’s price by its circulating supply. It is therefore a more useful measure of relative size than the price of one token: a token can have a very low unit price simply because many units exist.
At the October 2, 2026 CoinGecko snapshot reported by Early Thunder, PEPE would have needed about 1.86 times its own market capitalization to equal SHIB’s, assuming SHIB’s market cap stayed unchanged. In reality, both market caps move with token prices and circulating-supply estimates, so the gap can widen or narrow. A September 7, 2026 comparison using CoinGecko API data also showed SHIB ahead: PEPE at $1.52 billion and SHIB at $3.21 billion, according to PepePrime Team.

What do PEPE price forecasts say?
PrimeXBT published the following PEPE estimates on August 7, 2026. These are that publisher’s forecasts, not independently established future prices or a consensus among analysts.

PrimeXBT cautions that its long-range projections are estimates rather than promises. The publisher says forecasts vary widely and points to the broader direction of crypto markets, appetite for speculative assets, and retail attention as possible drivers. It also describes PEPE as lacking fundamentals that anchor its price and warns that sentiment shifts can move it quickly. Those are the publisher’s views, not proof of a reliable predictive relationship or investment advice.

Why a forecast cannot answer whether PEPE will overtake SHIB
A token-price target on its own does not settle a market-cap comparison. The outcome depends on PEPE’s market capitalization relative to SHIB’s at the same time; both can rise or fall, and the circulating supply used in market-cap calculations matters too. A forecast also has a time horizon and assumptions that may not hold. The available dated market comparisons establish that SHIB was larger on their respective dates, but they do not establish what either asset will be worth later.
For a more complete comparison, track the market-cap gap over time alongside trading liquidity and volume, circulating supply, volatility and drawdowns, holder concentration, and evidence of ongoing demand or utility. A short-term return or a score from a third-party framework is not a dependable forecast of which token will lead in the future.

PEPE supply and ownership risks to understand
Large supply and historical allocation
The SEC-filed Canary PEPE registration statement says PEPE launched with a total supply of 420.69 trillion tokens. It describes the initial allocation as 93.1% distributed through liquidity pools and 6.9% held in a multisignature wallet for exchange listings and liquidity-related uses. The filing recounts that former team members transferred about 16 trillion tokens, or 3.8% of the total supply, to exchanges in August 2023, followed by a burn of about 6.9 trillion tokens, or 1.6%, in October 2023. It says around 25% of the original wallet assets remained as of the prospectus and were used for administration and promotion. These are historical filing statements, not a description of current wallet balances.
The same SEC filing estimated that 98.4% of total supply was circulating as of January 2026. A separate CFTC-filed futures listing described 414 trillion PEPE circulating against a 420.7 trillion limited supply. These are figures reported in different filings and contexts, not a live supply feed.

Wallet concentration needs context
The SEC registration statement said the ten largest PEPE wallet addresses held about 41% of circulating supply as of January 2026. That figure does not mean ten individual investors necessarily controlled that share: the filing cautions that exchange omnibus wallets can hold assets for many customers. It also identifies 11 of the top 15 addresses as designated exchange wallets that likely included customer assets.

The CFTC-filed listing describes PEPE as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum with no ongoing issuance. It says speculative investment is a principal use alongside transfers, and identifies market conditions, social media, and sentiment among influences on its price. The listing states: “Pepe has no official affiliation with the creator of the original artwork and is marketed as a community-driven cryptocurrency without inherent utility beyond transfer and exchange on blockchain networks.” That description does not make a prediction about PEPE’s price or its relative performance against SHIB.

The CFTC filing reports approximately 7.6% current 30-day volatility in the snapshot stated in that filing. That is a filing-context figure, not a measure of PEPE’s current volatility. It should not be used as a current risk reading without a newer, clearly dated market measure.
How to assess a PEPE-versus-SHIB comparison
- Compare market caps on the same date. Use the same data provider and timestamp where possible; price-per-token comparisons can mislead when supplies differ.
- Look at the gap, not only the ranking. A lead can persist while the distance between the two market caps changes substantially.
- Check supply and liquidity assumptions. Circulating-supply estimates may differ by source, and market capitalization alone does not show how easily a large position could be traded.
- Consider volatility and drawdowns. A possible rapid gain comes with the risk of rapid losses; a single volatility statistic from a dated filing is not a substitute for current market data.
- Treat forecasts as scenarios. Attribute a target to its publisher and publication date, and do not interpret it as a promise or as proof that PEPE will flip SHIB.
