Kickstarter marked the project “Project We Love” and, in an April 2025 case study, ranked it as the platform’s third most-funded design project at that time. Whether the bag is right for you depends on practical details—especially your airline’s carry-on limits, how you travel with camera gear, and the terms that apply to the purchase channel you use.
What does “award-winning” mean in this case?
The available recognition is Kickstarter-specific. The campaign page carried Kickstarter’s “Project We Love” designation, and Kickstarter’s April 24, 2025 case study by Brandon Stosuy called it the platform’s “#3 most funded design project in Kickstarter history” at the time of publication. That is a time-bound crowdfunding ranking, not a product design award. The cited sources do not identify a separate design award for the Roller Pro.
Kickstarter’s campaign page, accessed in 2026, displays $13,408,553 pledged by 24,219 backers against a $100,000 goal. Kickstarter’s 2025 case study reports a different tally: $12,940,078 from 23,461 backers, excluding the later late-pledge context; it says late pledges subsequently brought the campaign above $13 million. These are different platform-reported tallies and should not be treated as identical. The campaign ran March 4 through April 18, 2025, a 44-day run, according to the campaign page.
Those figures show substantial crowdfunding participation. They do not, by themselves, establish independent product performance, customer satisfaction, or comparative value.

- ADAPTIVE GEAR STORAGE: Deploy or stow internal retention straps in seconds. Cord Hook external carry system secures gear on the move, and a 2" expansion zip increases volume from 34-39L. Fits in overhead bins, but packs like a much bigger bag.
- RADICAL PRODUCTS, RADICAL COMPANY: Peak Design creates industry-shifting, lifetime-lasting gear with a mission to leave the world better than we found it. No investors, no venture capital - just innovation on our terms.
What is different about the Roller Pro?
Peak Design presented the Roller Pro as carry-on luggage with a hybrid soft- and hard-shell construction and a slim SlimDrive trolley handle. Kickstarter’s April 2025 case study also highlighted a drawbridge-style opening, an internal retention system, larger wheels, and compatibility with XL Camera Cube add-ons. These are the company’s design and feature descriptions, not results from an independent durability or performance test.
Peak Design and Kickstarter described the construction as combining hard-shell protection with soft-shell flexibility, and the bag as made with 100% recycled materials. Peak Design also stated that its products were guaranteed for life. Those are company/platform claims; the available sources do not independently verify material composition, long-term durability, warranty coverage in a particular purchase situation, or how the bag performs against competing rollers.

Will it fit as a carry-on?
Peak Design’s campaign FAQ lists the unexpanded exterior dimensions as 55.6 × 35.6 × 23 cm (21.8 × 14 × 9 in), and the expanded depth as 28 cm (11 in), with the other two dimensions unchanged. The FAQ calls the unexpanded bag globally carry-on compliant but also notes that airline maximums vary.
Use the dimensions as a starting point, not a guarantee of acceptance on every flight. Check the current carry-on size rule for each airline on your itinerary and compare it with the bag in the configuration you intend to use. Expansion adds 5 cm (2 in) of depth, which may matter under a carrier’s limit. Rules can differ by airline, route, fare, and aircraft, and the cited campaign material does not establish today’s requirements for any specific carrier.

Can you use it as a camera roller?
Peak Design’s Kickstarter FAQ says the XL Camera Cube was designed to fit the Roller Pro. It also says internal loops and included C-Clips can secure camera cubes inside the bag. This modular approach may suit a traveler who wants camera equipment organized in a removable insert rather than permanently dedicating the entire suitcase to camera gear.
Fit and attachment are not the same as a guarantee of protection. The sources do not provide independent impact testing or comparative evidence about how well the Roller Pro protects equipment. Before relying on it for valuable gear, consider the camera cube and its padding, how tightly the packed equipment can move, and whether your travel conditions call for additional protection.

Does it have a built-in TSA lock?
No integrated TSA lock is identified in the campaign FAQ. Peak Design said the zipper layout could be secured with a third-party travel lock, describing the design as intended to accommodate one. That offers flexibility if you prefer to choose your own lock, but it is different from having a lock built into the luggage. Confirm that any lock you choose suits your travel needs and the applicable security procedures.

The campaign’s popularity is not a substitute for assessing fit, features, and purchase terms. Use this checklist to decide whether the design matches your travel habits:
Best Value

- THEY SEE ME ROLLIN: Telescoping handle stows away easily when in backpack mode, or extend to let the red airless and crushproof wheels to the work. Molded, recycled PC plastic shell maintains shape and protects contents in the cargo hull
- SMALL FEATURES, BIG DIFFERENCE:Top drop-in valuables pocket with key clip, front zippered slip pockets, larger internal zippered pockets, packfast attachment clips, heavy duty YKK zips, high vis yellow interior.

- Carry-on fit: Compare the unexpanded and expanded exterior measurements with the current limits for every airline you plan to use.
- Capacity: Check packed interior volume and whether the expansion configuration works for your typical load; the campaign materials cited here do not establish a comparative capacity advantage.
- Access and organization: Decide whether the drawbridge-style opening, internal retention system, and removable camera-cube approach suit how you pack and retrieve items.
- Protection: Consider your gear’s needs and the absence of independent comparative protection testing in the cited campaign/platform sources.
- Handling: Assess the slim handle and larger-wheel design against your preferences, while recognizing that the source material does not supply comparative handling results or a verified weight comparison.
- Lock preference: Decide whether a compatible third-party travel lock works for you or whether you specifically require an integrated lock.
- Warranty and returns: Read the warranty and return terms that apply to the actual seller and transaction, rather than assuming campaign reward terms apply to later retail purchases.
- Total cost: Verify the current price and any shipping, tax, or VAT before ordering. The campaign-era US public price and launch forecast are not current retail confirmation.
What should you know about campaign-era buying terms?
Peak Design’s FAQ forecast a June/July 2025 public launch and gave a US public price of $599.95. Those were campaign-era statements, not confirmation of today’s price, availability, or stock. The campaign page records that funding ended in April 2025, so a current purchase should be evaluated using the seller’s present listing and terms.
The FAQ said Kickstarter reward pledges were not returnable, refundable, or exchangeable, while also stating that Peak Design products were guaranteed for life. It also warned that shipping, tax, and VAT could be separate from a pledge amount. These campaign terms describe the Kickstarter reward context; they do not establish the return policy or warranty terms for a later retail purchase. Verify the conditions attached to the specific transaction before paying.
