Paytm acquired a majority stake in Insider.in in 2017 for a little over ₹35 crore, according to contemporaneous reporting by The Economic Times. The report did not disclose the exact percentage. Paytm later sold its broader entertainment ticketing business to Zomato; that transfer was completed on 27 August 2024, but it was a separate transaction with a different scope.
What Paytm bought in 2017
Insider.in was an online ticketing and events platform backed by event management company Only Much Louder (OML). The Economic Times reported on 13 July 2017 that Paytm acquired a majority stake for a little over ₹35 crore. The report did not state the precise stake or provide a more exact purchase price.
Insider.in founder Shreyas Srinivasan was expected to continue running the business. OML founders Vijay and Ajay Nair were to remain stakeholders and serve on its advisory board, according to the same report.
What the deal was meant to do
The stated plan was to make Insider.in accessible to Paytm users. Vijay Nair, identified by The Economic Times as an OML founder, said: “Following the acquisition, the focus will be on making Insider.in accessible to Paytm users”. The report describes an intended focus, not evidence of the precise integration that followed.

What happened to Paytm Insider later
In August 2024, Paytm agreed to sell its entertainment ticketing business, covering movies, sports and live events, to Zomato. Paytm’s 21 August 2024 exchange filing announced a cash consideration of ₹2,048 crore. The company’s FY2024–25 annual report says the transfer was completed on 27 August 2024.
The annual report gives the adjusted closing consideration as ₹20,136 million after cash and net-working-capital adjustments. It also allocates ₹898 million to the transfer of the event business to Wasteland Entertainment. These are figures for the later sale of Paytm’s broader entertainment ticketing business, not a revised price for the 2017 Insider.in stake.

The 2017 and 2024 figures should not be compared as if they were prices for the same asset: one concerns a majority stake in Insider.in, while the later deal covered a broader ticketing business and included closing adjustments.
