The winner said he bought it after waking with itchy palms; that was his personal reason for taking a chance, not a way to predict or improve lottery results.
How the couple won the top prize
In a report published on 30 December 2024, PerthNow’s Ella Loneragan said the winner was a man in his 50s. He told PerthNow and Lotterywest: “On Saturday I woke up feeling funny and with itchy palms, so I decided to take this as a sign to go and treat myself to a scratchie ticket.”
He discovered the win on Saturday and waited for Lotterywest headquarters to open on Monday so he could claim it. Lotterywest’s 30 December 2024 release confirmed that the Parmelia couple had won the $100,000 top prize on a WA Gold Double ticket purchased from Phoenix Lotteries. The sources do not name the couple or detail how the prize was paid.
What they planned to do with the winnings
The couple said they planned to spend some of the money on a trip to Bali to bring in the new year. The reports record that intention, not whether they ultimately travelled.

The game’s odds and current status
The 2024 ticket was reported under the name “WA Gold Double.” Lotterywest’s current listing uses the name “WA Gold Doubler.” As checked on 8 October 2026, the official listing says the game has ended, all three $100,000 top prizes have been won and claimed, and prize claims expire on 24 October 2026. It is not currently available to play.
The listing gives a $20 ticket price, 540,000 tickets, a $7,398,000 total prize pool and approximate overall odds of 1 in 3.29. Lotterywest defines those odds as the chance of winning a prize across all tickets distributed in Western Australia for the entire game. Tickets are randomly distributed statewide, and all prizes may be won and claimed before every ticket is sold. The figure is therefore game-wide context, not a guarantee about the remaining stock at any particular retailer or an individual buyer’s outcome.
