Neither Paramount+ nor Max is the best choice for everyone. Pick the service that has the films or series you actually want, then check whether it carries the specific live sports you follow at a plan tier you can afford. In the U.S., Paramount+ has the lower advertised starting price; Max’s live sports are excluded from its entry plan.
How the plans and prices compare
These are the services’ advertised U.S. monthly prices on pages accessed October 4, 2026. They are not a strict like-for-like comparison: the plans include different libraries and features, and Max’s least expensive plan is explicitly ad-supported. Taxes may apply to Max plans, and prices or offers can change.
| Service and plan | Advertised monthly price | Relevant features |
|---|---|---|
| Paramount+ entry plan | From $8.99/month, according to Paramount+. | Check the plan details for the features and sports you need. |
| Paramount+ Premium | $13.99/month, according to Paramount+. | Includes SHOWTIME on-demand without ads, downloads and a live-TV offering; live TV has ads. Up to three simultaneous devices are supported. |
| Max Basic with Ads | $10.99/month, according to Max. | Does not include Max live sports. |
| Max Standard | $18.49/month, according to Max. | Includes live sports, two simultaneous streams, Full HD 1080p and 30 downloads. |
| Max Premium | $22.99/month, according to Max. | Includes live sports, four simultaneous streams (two for sports), 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos where available, and 100 downloads. |
Max’s Standard and Premium stream and download figures and video and audio features are listed on its plan features page. Paramount+ advertises up to three simultaneous devices and makes offline downloads a Premium feature on its device and download information page. Consider those differences only if your household needs more streams, offline viewing or higher-resolution playback.
Which service is better for live sports?
The right choice depends on the event, not just the league name. Neither service’s listed offerings should be read as access to every game or event in a sport.

Choose Paramount+ for its listed CBS, soccer and UFC coverage
Paramount+ promotes live and on-demand UFC events, UEFA Champions League, Serie A and other soccer, NFL on CBS—including local games and featured national matchups—and college football on CBS. The service says Premium is required for the promoted live college football on CBS and includes the local CBS station in its live-TV offering. Live TV has ads, even though Premium’s on-demand SHOWTIME content is described as ad-free. See Paramount+’s plan information for the current offering.
Choose Max for its selected live events, if you have Standard or Premium
Max lists selected live events including MLB, NHL, NCAA Men’s March Madness, U.S. Soccer and premier cycling. Live sports are included with Standard and Premium, not Basic with Ads, according to Max’s U.S. plan information. “Selected” matters: that listing does not promise every game, match or event from those competitions.

Check the exact event before subscribing
Look up the current schedule for the competition and event you want, then confirm the required plan and any local-market or blackout restrictions. The providers’ plan pages describe broad offerings but do not settle availability for every event or market. If your must-watch game is not included when you need it, the service’s other sports listings may not make up for that gap.

There is no supported overall winner for movies or scripted television based on the available plan and brand information. The sources do not provide a dated, comparable inventory of currently streamable titles, so a claim that one service has a larger or categorically better catalog would be misleading.

Paramount’s corporate description identifies a portfolio of brands including BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and Smithsonian Channel. That background does not establish that a particular film or series is currently available on Paramount+. Rights change, and catalogs can differ by country. Before choosing, search both services for the films, original series and franchises you care about, and confirm that each title is available in your region now.

A practical way to choose
- Write down your must-watch titles and events. Check specific films, series and games in each service’s current U.S. catalog or schedule rather than relying on brand names.
- Match sports to the plan that includes them. For Max live sports, compare Standard or Premium; for Paramount+’s promoted live college football on CBS, compare Premium.
- Compare the monthly cost of the plan you need. Do not use the entry price if it lacks a required feature. Account for applicable taxes and distinguish regular prices from any offer shown at signup.
- Decide how you feel about ads and household features. Max’s entry tier is Basic with Ads. Paramount+ Premium’s ad-free description applies to on-demand SHOWTIME, not live TV. Compare simultaneous streams, downloads and picture or audio quality if those matter to your household.
- Subscribe to the service that covers the most important items within your budget. If each service has different must-watch content, compare the cost of the plans and subscription months you actually expect to use rather than assuming one is a permanent all-purpose choice.
The short answer for different viewers
- Start with Paramount+ if its lower advertised entry price fits your budget and its current catalog or listed CBS, soccer or UFC coverage matches what you watch. Check whether a desired event requires Premium.
- Start with Max if its current movies or series are the stronger match for you, or its selected sports events are priorities and you are willing to pay for Standard or Premium.
- Choose neither on catalog reputation alone. Search for your specific titles and verify the event, tier and schedule before paying.
