Paramount Global said the Essential change would take effect “later this month” and that existing customers would remain at $5.99; TIME specified August 20 as the date for new subscribers. Paramount Global’s August 8, 2024 earnings-call transcript and TIME’s June 6, 2024 report describe the announced changes and dates.
Did existing Paramount+ Essential subscribers get a price increase?
Not under the 2024 announcement: existing monthly Essential subscribers were to remain at $5.99 per month, while the $7.99 rate applied to new subscribers starting August 20. That grandfathering statement does not establish how every promotion, reseller, or third-party billing arrangement was handled; check the billing notice or account terms for an individual subscription.

When did the SHOWTIME plan increase take effect for existing customers?
Paramount+ with SHOWTIME increased by $1 per month, from $11.99 to $12.99, for both new and existing customers. TIME reported that existing customers would receive the new rate with the first renewal on or after September 20, 2024. That renewal timing is distinct from the August 20 start date for the Essential increase for new subscribers.
What was different about Essential and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME?
The names matter when matching a bill to the 2024 prices. Paramount’s plan description characterized Essential as a limited-commercial plan without SHOWTIME content or mobile downloads. The former Paramount+ with SHOWTIME tier included SHOWTIME content, downloads, and access to local live CBS. Those feature distinctions are described on Paramount+’s plan-feature help page; its displayed prices should not be treated as current rates.

Are the August 2024 prices still current?
No. The rates above describe a historical 2024 announcement, not today’s prices. Paramount+’s official US homepage advertised plans starting at $8.99 per month and Premium at $13.99 per month when accessed October 8, 2026. Prices and plan availability can change; consult Paramount+’s US homepage for the current offer.
