A secondary report put Pakistan’s total money supply at Rs 46.5 trillion in December 2025, close to Rs 47 trillion. That figure should not be described as M2: the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) December statistical bulletin lists M2 through November, at Rs 40.568 trillion, while its half-year report says M2 grew 18.8% year over year by end-December. The aggregates and dates differ, so the figures are not interchangeable.
What does the Rs 46.5 trillion figure represent?
TechJuice reported that Pakistan’s total money supply reached Rs 46.5 trillion in December 2025, attributing the figure to provisional SBP monetary aggregate data. The underlying official series and its definition are not identified in the available source, so it is safest to call this a reported broader total—not verified M2. TechJuice’s report also gives Rs 45.19 trillion for November and Rs 40.21 trillion for December 2024, and claims month-on-month growth of 2.9% and year-on-year growth of 15.64%. Those comparisons belong to the outlet’s reported total, not the SBP bulletin’s M2 series.
What does SBP report for M2?
SBP’s December 2025 Statistical Bulletin, table 2.6, reports M2 in million rupees. Its latest observation in that bulletin is November 2025: Rs 40,567,988 million, or about Rs 40.568 trillion. The table is based on weekly returns; monthly data run to the last working day of the last week. SBP notes that data can be reclassified or revised, so the quoted value is the figure shown in that bulletin vintage. Read SBP’s table 2.6.

These components sum to the reported M2 total. They are not a breakdown of the separately reported Rs 46.5 trillion figure.
How did M2 change by end-December?
SBP’s Half Year Report 2025–26 says M2 grew 18.8% year over year at end-December 2025, compared with 10.2% in the corresponding period a year earlier. This is a growth rate, not an end-December M2 balance; the bulletin value above is the latest monthly M2 level shown in its December edition, for November. SBP’s half-year report says the composition of M2 growth shifted: the increase in net foreign assets moderated while net domestic assets expanded.

Why the figures cannot be compared as if they were the same measure
“Money supply” can refer to different monetary aggregates. SBP lists Broad Money (M2) and Monetary Aggregates (M3) as separate series, so a total reported without a clear aggregate label cannot safely be treated as M2. SBP’s economic data listing identifies these series separately.

- Aggregate: Is the number M2, M3, or another broader total?
- Observation date: Does it refer to month-end or year-end, and which month is actually in the table?
- Units: Is the value in million rupees or trillion rupees?
- Growth basis: Is the percentage change month over month or year over year?
Here, the Rs 46.5 trillion figure is an outlet’s reported December total, while Rs 40.568 trillion is SBP’s November M2 balance. SBP’s verified December fact in the cited report is M2’s 18.8% year-over-year growth—not a December M2 level of Rs 46.5 trillion.
