The official approval announcement and AP’s October 9 account describe the small-car benefit differently. The figures below retain each source’s wording rather than treating the two descriptions as interchangeable.

How do eligible motorists redeem a token?
The Finance Division assigned digital management of the scheme to the Ministry of IT and Telecom through the Fuel Pass System. AP reported that recipients receive a token by text message and present it at a participating fuel station, where staff check eligibility and apply the discount. AP’s account does not give a specific registration website, application procedure or list of participating stations, so those details should be confirmed through current official information.

In an earlier rollout snapshot, Pakistan’s Information Ministry said on September 21 that more than 2.2 million people had signed up and around 1.9 million tokens had been issued. It said stations operated by oil marketing companies were covered and local administrations monitored implementation. What do the reported beneficiary figures count?
AP reported on October 9 that Sharif said more than 10 million low-income people had received assistance. AP’s October 6 report had cited a figure of more than 9 million; these are dated snapshots and do not establish the exact day-by-day change. The sources reviewed do not provide an independent audit of the recipient count.

Sharif also estimated that about 50 million people benefited when recipients’ families were included. AP says that estimate assumes five people in each household for roughly 10 million direct recipients. It is a family-inclusive estimate, not a claim that 50 million individuals were registered to receive fuel discounts.
Why did Pakistan introduce the relief scheme?
AP reported on October 9 that Pakistani fuel prices were more than 50% above pre-war levels following the Middle East conflict, increasing transport, food and other household costs. That is AP’s comparison at publication, not a permanent measure of prices. For a dated illustration of the price shock, Radio Pakistan reported on April 3 that petrol was Rs458.40 per litre and diesel Rs520.35 per litre after a government-announced increase. What has been reported about funding?
Radio Pakistan reported on September 14 that the Petroleum Minister said Rs25 billion per month would be provided for the scheme. AP reported on October 9 that Sharif had allocated Rs75 billion for fuel discounts.
