Pakistan’s $411 Billion GDP Figure: What Changed Since May 2025

The $411 billion figure was Pakistan’s provisional estimate for FY2024–25, announced on May 20, 2025—not its current reported economy size. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) later revised that year’s nominal GDP estimate to $407.2 billion, and its National Accounts page now reports $452.1 billion for FY2025–26. Each number refers to a different estimate or period.

Where the $411 billion figure came from

On May 20, 2025, Pakistan’s National Accounts Committee reported a provisional FY2024–25 economy size of Rs114.7 trillion, equivalent to US$410.96 billion and rounded to US$411.0 billion. The release also put provisional real GDP growth for that fiscal year at 2.68%. These are different measures: the dollar figure is nominal GDP, while 2.68% is the rate of change in real output.

How the estimate changed

PBS revised its FY2024–25 figures in October 2025. The reported nominal economy size became US$407.2 billion, and real GDP growth was revised from 2.68% to 3.04%. The $411 billion headline accurately reflects the earlier provisional announcement, but it is not the revised figure for that fiscal year.

What is Pakistan’s GDP in 2025?

The answer depends on the period and statistical series meant by “2025.” PBS’s National Accounts page reports an economy size of US$452.1 billion for FY2025–26. That is a later fiscal-year estimate, not a replacement label for the May 2025 headline or the revised FY2024–25 total.

The World Bank’s World Development Indicators (WDI) reports GDP of about US$407.3 billion and annual real growth of 3.7% for its 2025 observation. This is a useful international-series comparison, but it should not be silently treated as identical to a PBS fiscal-year estimate: observation periods and revision timing can differ.

Why GDP totals can differ

A GDP figure is meaningful only with its period, measure, source and estimate vintage. PBS’s May release was provisional; its October revision changed both the nominal dollar total and the real growth rate. A World Bank database observation may also use a different period convention or reflect revisions on a different schedule.

Nominal GDP expressed in US dollars is also affected by currency conversion, so a change in its dollar value does not by itself show how much real production grew. For growth, use the separately reported real GDP rate and note which release it comes from.

How to read the $411 billion headline

  • It refers to PBS’s provisional FY2024–25 estimate announced in May 2025.
  • For the revised FY2024–25 estimate, PBS reported US$407.2 billion and 3.04% real growth in October 2025.
  • PBS’s US$452.1 billion figure is for FY2025–26; the World Bank’s roughly US$407.3 billion figure is a 2025 WDI observation.
