The Pakistani rupee recorded its 255th consecutive interbank session of gains against the US dollar on October 7, 2026, according to Mettis Global. It closed at PKR 277.02 per dollar, improving by 3.31 paisa from the previous session’s PKR 277.05. The “42nd” in the original headline does not match this latest dated report.
What was the rupee’s latest reported rate?
Mettis Global reported an October 7, 2026 interbank close of PKR 277.02 per US dollar, compared with PKR 277.05 in the previous session. Its table gives the underlying figures as 277.0214 and 277.0545, respectively. The reported daily appreciation was 3.31 paisa. These are interbank figures, not a promise of the rate available to every customer.
The same report listed an intraday high bid of PKR 277.10 and an intraday low ask of PKR 277.00. Those are bid and ask observations, not two closing rates. Mettis Global’s October 7 report provides the streak count and daily movement.
What does “255 consecutive sessions” mean?
It describes a reported run of consecutive interbank sessions in which the rupee strengthened against the dollar. It is not the same as saying the rupee rose 255 percent, nor does it mean the daily exchange rate changed by the same amount each session. The October 7 report described the session as the 255th in the run.

The count is a news outlet’s description; the State Bank of Pakistan’s reviewed exchange-rate index lists rate series but does not independently verify the streak count. A September 30, 2026 report had described the move as the 251st consecutive day and gave a rate of PKR 277.1144 per dollar, offering a dated comparison rather than an official count. ProPakistani’s September 30 report is the source for that earlier figure.
How does the reported daily gain compare with year-to-date gains?
The daily move, fiscal-year-to-date change, and calendar-year-to-date change measure different periods. Mettis Global reported that, as of October 7, the rupee had appreciated by PKR 1.14, or 0.41%, fiscal-year-to-date, and PKR 3.10, or 1.12%, calendar-year-to-date. These cumulative figures are not the October 7 session’s gain.

Why might another published dollar rate differ?
“The exchange rate” can refer to distinct observations. The State Bank of Pakistan lists mark-to-market revaluation rates, weighted-average customer rates, and open-market closing rates as separate series, with different dates shown for different series. Its homepage snapshot for October 7 showed a mark-to-market rate of 277.0214 and weighted-average customer bid and offer rates of 276.7398 and 277.1649. These figures have different definitions and should not be treated as interchangeable with the reported interbank close.

No cause for this particular streak is established by the cited reports and SBP rate data. A series of daily nominal gains alone does not show what drove the moves or establish the rupee’s broader purchasing power or real effective value. Claims that a specific policy, reserve change, remittance flow, or intervention caused the run require separate evidence.
