Reports on Pakistan’s SRO 61(I)/2026 say the Personal Baggage route for importing used cars has been removed from the Import Policy Order 2022. The same reports describe an 850-day wait before another vehicle import after a prior import or gift, plus new restrictions affecting Gift and Transfer of Residence imports. The official SRO text was not reproduced in the reports, so treat these details as reported changes and confirm the notification and any later rules before making plans.
What reports say changed in Pakistan
Media Today and TechJuice report that the Ministry of Commerce issued SRO 61(I)/2026 on January 15, 2026, amending the Import Policy Order 2022. According to both reports, the amendment removes references to the Personal Baggage scheme, ending that route for used-car imports. This concerns Pakistan’s import policy, not India’s customs baggage rules.
The reports also describe changes to the remaining Gift and Transfer of Residence routes. The table summarizes what they report; it is not a substitute for the official notification’s legal wording.

How the reported 850-day wait works
Media Today and TechJuice say the 850-day period is counted from the filing of the Goods Declaration for the previous vehicle. Under that reporting, the clock is tied to the prior declaration filing—not simply to the day a car was purchased or arrived. The reports do not reproduce the SRO text, so confirm the starting point and any exceptions in the official notification before relying on this calculation.

Standards and documents still need official confirmation

It does not identify a specific inspection, emissions test, technical certificate, vehicle-age limit, or effective date. Any suggestion that reduced imports will stabilize local car prices is a forecast, not a measured result; the available reporting does not establish that prices have changed.

How to verify the rules before acting
- Obtain the official text of SRO 61(I)/2026 and check the relevant amendments to the Import Policy Order 2022.
- Confirm whether any later Ministry, customs, or standards notice has changed or clarified the reported provisions.
- For a repeat import, verify the 850-day calculation against the previous vehicle’s Goods Declaration filing and confirm how the rule applies to your circumstances.
- For Transfer of Residence, confirm the residency and vehicle-sourcing requirements directly with the relevant authority.
- Before selling or transferring a Gift or Transfer of Residence vehicle, verify how the reported one-year restriction applies to your case.
Media Today and TechJuice both report the changes, but neither reproduces the official SRO text. Their coverage is useful for identifying the reported changes; the notification and any subsequent official rules are needed to establish the definitive requirements.
