The reports agree on the size of the increase and the reported price, but give different levy amounts before and after it; the available reporting does not resolve that discrepancy.
What changed, and what price was reported?
Dunya News and TechJuice reported a Rs200-per-litre increase in the levy on high-octane petrol (HOBC) in Pakistan on 23 March 2026. Both also reported a retail price of Rs534 per litre at that time. This is a dated reported price, not confirmation of the price currently charged at pumps.
Dunya News attributed the specific levy schedule to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), reporting a rise from Rs105.35 to Rs305.37 per litre. TechJuice reported rounded figures of Rs100 and Rs300 per litre. The accounts therefore support the reported Rs200 increase but differ on the levy endpoints. No underlying official price notification was available in these reports to settle the difference. Dunya News; TechJuice.
Which fuel levies were affected?
Dunya News reported that the levies on regular petrol and high-speed diesel were unchanged in this decision. The reported increase was specific to high-octane petrol; it should not be read as a general Rs200-per-litre levy rise across petrol and diesel.

What was the stated reason and expected impact?
TechJuice described the policy as targeting luxury fuel consumption and attributed to officials a projection of Rs9 billion in monthly savings. That figure is a stated projection, not evidence of savings already achieved or independently verified revenue. TechJuice also referred to a Prime Minister’s Office statement, but the report did not provide a verifiable verbatim quotation from a named official.
How did the government-vehicle order relate to the levy?
Dunya News, Daily Pakistan and Daily Times reported a related order barring the use of high-octane fuel in government vehicles. Dunya News said officials would have to pay personally if such use was unavoidable. The reports do not establish that the vehicle restriction itself changed the levy or the retail price.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does “record Rs534” mean it was independently confirmed as a record?
TechJuice used “record” in its headline and report, but the available coverage does not provide a historical price series that would independently establish a record. Treat Rs534 per litre as the price reported on 23 March 2026, and the record characterization as that outlet’s description—not as a separately verified historical comparison.
