Pakistan’s government-set petroleum prices fell from March 1, 2025, for the following fortnight. Petrol (motor spirit) dropped by Rs0.50 to Rs255.63 per litre, while high-speed diesel fell by Rs5.31 to Rs258.64 per litre. These are historical rates for that period, not current prices.
What were the revised petroleum prices?
The Press Information Department’s February 28, 2025 release listed the following consumer prices in rupees per litre. The reductions are calculated against the previous rates shown in the same release.

The official government release gives LDO as Rs153.34 per litre. Dawn reported Rs153.35, a one-paisa difference, while stating the same Rs2.47 reduction: Dawn’s report.
When did the new rates apply?
The Press Information Department published Press Release No. 287 in Islamabad on February 28, 2025. The revised rates took effect on March 1 and applied for the next fortnight, rather than representing a permanent price schedule. Radio Pakistan also reported the March 1 effective date and fortnight period.

Which fuel had the biggest reduction?
High-speed diesel had the largest cut among the four listed products: Rs5.31 per litre. Petrol’s reduction was much smaller at Rs0.50 per litre. Kerosene fell by Rs3.53 and light diesel oil by Rs2.47 per litre.
Dawn noted that HSD is used across much of the transport sector, including heavy transport vehicles, buses, tractors, tube wells and threshers. That context does not mean fares or the prices of transported goods automatically fell when the fuel rate changed.

Why were the prices adjusted?
The Press Information Department said that the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) reviewed and adjusted consumer prices “in view of recent fluctuations in the international oil market.” The release does not establish that any particular transport fare or retail price changed as a result.
