FBR first extended the deadline to October 15, then extended it again through October 31, 2025. Both extensions cited section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Those dates have passed; anyone filing now should check FBR’s current guidance rather than rely on the historical 2025 arrangements.
What was the final FBR deadline for Tax Year 2025?
The final general deadline established by the FBR notices reviewed was October 31, 2025. On October 15, FBR announced: “FBR has extended the deadline for filing of Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025 till October 31, 2025.” The notice cited section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, and requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations. FBR’s October 15, 2025 notice
This was the Pakistan federal income-tax deadline for Tax Year 2025. It is a historical date, not a current filing deadline.
How the deadline changed
| Date | FBR announcement | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| September 29, 2025 | FBR said the deadline would not be extended and urged eligible taxpayers to file by September 30. FBR’s September 29 statement | This position was superseded by later notices. |
| September 30, 2025 | FBR extended the Tax Year 2025 deadline through October 15, citing section 214A and requests from trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the public. FBR’s September 30 notice | October 15 replaced September 30 as the deadline. |
| October 15, 2025 | FBR extended the deadline through October 31, citing section 214A and requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations. FBR’s October 15 notice | October 31 became the final general date established in the notices reviewed. |
Why does October 14 appear?
An FBR circular extended the Tax Year 2024 deadline through October 14, 2024. That is a different tax year and does not establish October 14, 2025 as the Tax Year 2025 deadline. The available notices do not establish why the 2025 headline used October 14.

It also said people who missed the deadline could apply online to the relevant Commissioner through November 15, 2025, giving valid reasons. These were time-limited arrangements described in 2025, not options available now. FBR’s November 3, 2025 clarification

For live filing steps, account access, password recovery, return completion or revision, late filing, record keeping, and privacy guidance, consult FBR’s official filing guidance and IRIS portal. FBR’s guidance describes e-enrollment as providing an NTN or registration number and password; account recovery uses codes sent to the taxpayer’s registered email and mobile number. Because the guidance and procedures can change, follow the current official instructions rather than treating those details as a guarantee of today’s process. FBR filing guidance
