The announcement is historical, not a current pump-price update. News reports differ by one paisa on diesel’s new rate: Dawn reported Rs 353.42, while Dunya News and Geo News reported Rs 353.43.
What changed in Pakistan’s April 18 fuel-price revision?
Dawn reported that the government reduced HSD from Rs 385.54 to Rs 353.42 per litre, a cut of Rs 32.12. It said petrol remained unchanged at Rs 366.58 per litre. The prices applied through the week ending April 24, 2026, according to Dawn’s April 18 report.

There is a one-paisa inconsistency in reports of the new HSD price. Dunya News and Geo News printed Rs 353.43 alongside the Rs 32.12 reduction. Dawn’s Rs 353.42 figure is consistent with subtracting Rs 32.12 from the reported previous price of Rs 385.54.
Why did diesel fall while petrol stayed put?
The reported decision followed easing international oil prices amid the US-Iran ceasefire context. However, Dawn said the sharp additional fall after the Strait of Hormuz reopened came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved the diesel cut, so that move was not reflected in the April 18 decision.

Geo News reported that, by 10:50 a.m. EDT (14:50 GMT) on April 17, Brent crude futures had fallen $12.87, or 12.95%, to $86.52 a barrel; US WTI was down 14.26% to $81.19 a barrel. These are dated market snapshots reported by Geo News, not current oil prices or a direct measure of what was passed through to Pakistani pump prices.
What the reduction does—and does not—tell consumers
The announcement established the revised HSD and petrol rates for that review period. It does not establish that transport fares, freight charges or food prices fell by a corresponding amount; those downstream outcomes were not reported as part of the price decision.

Dawn also cited Rs 520.35 per litre as the HSD peak on April 10, 2026. That is a reported earlier peak, not the rate in force after the April 18 decision.

No. These figures describe the April 18, 2026 decision and the period through April 24. Pakistan issued later petroleum-price notices: the OGRA notices index lists later revisions, including an October 3 notice. The April rates therefore should not be presented as today’s prices. Check OGRA’s latest applicable notice for a current rate; the indexed page listing does not itself establish the April notice’s figures.
