What the $90 million announcement meant
When PerthNow published its report on 19 December 2023, the final OZ Lotto draw of the year was still ahead. The $90 million was the advertised Division One prize—not a prize already won by one person. Lotterywest’s release that day described it as a chance for Western Australia to claim a record Division One prize. Lotterywest’s 19 December release is the contemporaneous operator announcement.
Lotterywest chief executive Jeremy Hubble said: “This $90 million OZ Lotto draw is a chance for WA to claim a Division One record prize”. That statement was made in Lotterywest’s media release on 19 December 2023; it described the opportunity before the draw, not its eventual outcome.
Three NSW tickets shared the prize
The outcome was reported after the draw. In a 27 December 2023 follow-up, Lotterywest said three tickets from New South Wales shared the $90 million Division One prize from the previous night’s draw. The advance announcement and the result are therefore distinct: the jackpot was offered on 19 December, then won by three tickets in the 26 December draw. Lotterywest’s 27 December result announcement records the outcome.

How large was it among 2023 lottery prizes?
Lotterywest said the $90 million OZ Lotto draw was the second-biggest prize offered by an Australian lottery game in 2023, behind the $100 million Powerball draws in June and August. This is Lotterywest’s comparison for that calendar year, not a ranking of lottery prizes across all years.
Lotterywest also reported that OZ Lotto had 13 Division One wins across Australia earlier in 2023, with combined prize money of more than $233 million. OZ Lotto mechanics and published odds
For a standard game, Lotterywest describes OZ Lotto as a draw of 10 numbers from 1 to 47: the first seven are winning numbers and the last three are supplementary numbers. Lotterywest currently publishes Division One odds of 1 in 62,891,499 for one standard game and says the odds are the same for every game played. The odds describe the chance for a standard game, not a way to predict the draw. Choosing particular numbers, using a system, or adding number-selection accessories does not improve the probability of a Division One win.
