Recommended Free Tools
The Owala FreeSip stainless steel bottle’s main draw is its two-in-one lid: sip through a built-in straw while the bottle stays upright, or tilt it to drink through the wider opening. Owala describes the lid as leak-proof and says the bottle keeps drinks cold for 24 hours; those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified test results here. This review covers the listed features, sizes and care guidance so you can judge whether the design fits your routine.
How the FreeSip lid works
The FreeSip combines a built-in straw with a wider opening in one lid. Press the button to open it, then sip upright through the straw or tip the bottle to drink from the opening. When closed, the carry loop acts as a lock. That arrangement gives you two ways to drink without changing lids. Owala’s product page describes the bottle as leak-proof, but this review does not independently test leakage.

The stainless steel body is described by Owala as triple-layer insulated. The brand claims cold retention for 24 hours; that is a product claim, not a measured result in this review. Owala also lists the bottle as BPA-free, lead-free and phthalate-free. Those are manufacturer statements, not independent material-test findings.
Which FreeSip size should you choose?
Owala’s cited stainless steel listing offers 24 oz, 32 oz and 40 oz versions. The listing’s dimensions are below; a larger capacity may mean fewer refills, while the listed dimensions can help you compare the bottle’s footprint. How often you want to refill, how much you want to carry, and whether a bottle fits your cup holder depend on your routine and the specific holder. The dimensions alone do not establish cup-holder compatibility.

What not to put in the steel FreeSip
Owala says not to use the stainless steel FreeSip with hot, carbonated or perishable liquids. If you need a bottle for those drinks, this model’s stated use restrictions make it a poor fit. Check the manufacturer’s current instructions if you are unsure whether a particular drink is suitable.
Rank #3
- 32-ounce insulated stainless-steel water bottle with a FreeSip spout and push-button lid with lock
- Patented FreeSip spout designed for either sipping upright through the built-in straw or tilting back to swig from the spout opening
- Protective push-to-open lid keeps spout clean; convenient carry loop doubles as a lock
- Double-wall insulation keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours; wide opening for cleaning and adding ice; cup holder-friendly base
- This bottle is not compatible with standard automotive cupholders; it is best secured in cup holder organizers, door pockets, or bags during transport
What photos should show
A useful photo review should show the lid close up, the button and locking carry loop, and both drinking openings. A side-by-side view of the three sizes can also make their different listed widths and heights easier to assess. No original product photos are included here, so this article does not present product imagery as firsthand evidence.
Who the Owala FreeSip may suit
The steel FreeSip is worth considering if you want both straw sipping and a wider opening in one lid, and you are comfortable with its cleaning guidance and restrictions on hot, carbonated and perishable drinks. The 24 oz, 32 oz and 40 oz options let you choose among different capacities and listed dimensions. Whether its carry size, drinking feel or leak resistance works for you requires assessing the bottle in your own use; the manufacturer’s claims alone cannot establish that.
