Smart-ring maker Oura announced a $900 million Series E financing on October 14, 2025, led by Fidelity Management & Research Company. ICONIQ joined as a new investor, while Whale Rock and Atreides also participated. Oura said the round valued the company at approximately $11 billion.
The capital is intended for artificial intelligence, new health features, production innovation, and global distribution. The deal is significant because it values Oura as more than a hardware company: its investment story increasingly depends on recurring membership revenue, health-data products, and expansion into preventive health.

Why the round matters
A $900 million private financing is unusually large for a consumer-wearable company. The approximately $11 billion valuation was more than twice Oura’s previous reported valuation, signaling investor confidence in the company’s growth prospects.

That confidence appears to rest on several parts of Oura’s business:
- A growing installed base of smart rings.
- Recurring revenue from Oura Membership subscriptions.
- Health insights and coaching delivered through its app.
- Expansion into laboratory services, women’s health, metabolic health, and cardiovascular features.
- Potential distribution through employers, health plans, and healthcare organizations.
This does not prove that Oura is profitable, that every feature is clinically validated, or that a future public offering will succeed. It also does not establish that the entire $900 million went directly onto Oura’s balance sheet. The available reporting does not specify whether the transaction included secondary share sales or how the proceeds were divided between primary and secondary capital.
Oura’s reported growth
At the time of the financing, Oura said it had sold more than 5.5 million rings since launch. The company also reported more than $500 million in 2024 revenue, described as more than double the prior year, and expected 2025 sales to exceed $1 billion.

The $1 billion figure was a company forecast, not an audited result available when the round was announced. Ring sales also should not be treated as equivalent to paid memberships or active users.
Later coverage reported that Oura sold nearly 3 million rings in 2025, was on track to exceed five million paid members, and reported approximately 80% first-year membership renewal. Those are subsequent company-reported or media-reported figures, and the definition of the renewal rate is important: it should not automatically be interpreted as overall customer retention.

How Oura makes money
Oura combines hardware sales with a recurring software membership. In the United States, Oura listed membership at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year as of July 27, 2026. New members receive one complimentary month with a ring purchase, and the membership is tied to the user’s account rather than a particular ring. The subscription applies to Gen3 and newer devices, according to Oura’s membership documentation.
The membership model is central to the financing story. A one-time hardware sale produces revenue when a device is purchased; a subscription can produce revenue over the life of the customer relationship. However, the available information does not establish Oura’s margins, customer-acquisition costs, lifetime value, or profitability.

What Oura said it would do with the money
Oura identified four broad priorities:
- AI and product innovation: expanding software, interpretation, and coaching capabilities.
- New health features: extending beyond sleep and recovery into broader preventive-health insights.
- Production innovation: improving manufacturing and the company’s ability to produce devices at scale.
- Global distribution: reaching more consumers and expanding business, employer, and healthcare channels.
Oura did not publicly provide a dollar-by-dollar allocation for these categories. They should therefore be understood as strategic priorities, not confirmed spending commitments.
From sleep tracker to preventive-health platform
Oura’s product strategy has broadened beyond sleep tracking. Its announced and marketed capabilities include Oura Advisor for AI-powered coaching, cardiovascular-age and cardio-capacity features, Health Panels and lab-result integration, women’s-health features, GLP-1 Insights, and Health Radar signals related to cardiovascular and respiratory health.

The company has also pursued employer and health-plan distribution. Its employer platform describes uses including employee wellness, rewards, corporate gifting, and de-identified engagement reporting.

They do not mean the ring diagnoses disease or replaces a physician. “Preventive health” is a product and business-positioning term, not a blanket regulatory classification.
Medical and privacy limitations
Oura devices collect health-related signals, but not every feature is an FDA-cleared medical device. Wellness insights, trends, risk signals, and AI-generated guidance should be distinguished from diagnosis and treatment.
Coverage by MedTech Dive noted that Oura had not obtained FDA authorization for health features in the same way some competitors had for particular functions. Readers should check the regulatory status of any feature that matters to a medical decision.
Privacy is also financially relevant. A health platform’s value depends partly on consumer trust, while its expansion into employers, insurers, and healthcare creates additional questions about consent, data access, retention, and governance. Oura’s privacy and enterprise statements are company claims; organizations considering a program should obtain written details about whether employers can see identifiable data and whether participation is genuinely voluntary.

What Oura was selling when it raised the money
The financing followed the October 2024 launch of Oura Ring 4. The company had also introduced ceramic versions, an optional charging dock, and Health Panels, which allowed U.S. users to book a blood test through Quest Diagnostics for $99 at approximately 2,000 Quest locations, according to contemporary reporting.
For current context, Oura introduced Oura Ring 5 in May 2026. Oura describes it as thinner and lighter than Ring 4, with 40% less volume, six-to-nine days of battery life in the launch announcement, and a fully titanium construction. Its support documentation lists 100-meter water resistance, sizes 6–13, and approximately 80 minutes of charging time.
Competitive pressure
Oura competes in more than the smart-ring category. Apple and Samsung offer broader smartwatch ecosystems with screens, apps, communications, and established distribution. Garmin and Fitbit compete in fitness and health tracking. Whoop targets recovery and training through a subscription-first model, while Ultrahuman and RingConn appeal to buyers evaluating smart rings without Oura’s standard membership approach.
Samsung Galaxy Ring may be most compelling for people already invested in Samsung’s ecosystem. Subscription-free alternatives may appeal to buyers who dislike recurring fees, although purchasers should compare app quality, sensor performance, battery life, sizing, warranties, customer support, and long-term software support rather than relying only on the subscription price.
TechCrunch cited an IDC estimate that Oura held more than 80% of the smart-ring market. That figure should be attributed to IDC and interpreted carefully because market share can mean shipments, revenue, installed base, geography, or another measure. It does not mean Oura controls the broader wearable or health-technology market.

What happened after the funding round
As of August 18, 2026, the financing was no longer Oura’s latest major corporate development. Oura later said it had confidentially submitted an IPO registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission. No offering size or price range had been determined, and a confidential filing does not guarantee that an IPO will occur.
The company also launched Ring 5 and continued expanding its AI, health-monitoring, metabolic-health, and enterprise offerings. Fierce Healthcare’s coverage places the financing within a broader scale-up toward a possible public company and healthcare platform.
What the financing does—and does not—tell investors
The round gives Oura substantial private capital to scale production, develop software, build distribution, and pursue health-related services. The valuation suggests that investors saw meaningful value in the combination of brand, installed devices, membership revenue, and future health-platform opportunities.

The valuation is not the same as cash, market capitalization, or guaranteed shareholder value. Company forecasts are not audited results. Ring sales are not paid memberships, and membership renewal figures require precise definitions.
For consumers, the financing may eventually mean more features, broader availability, and faster product development. It does not remove the main trade-offs: the full experience requires a recurring fee, health insights are not automatically medical diagnoses, and competition from large technology platforms remains intense.
