Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s Original Sin ranked highly on several named book charts in 2025: the ebook reached No. 2 and the audiobook No. 1 on Apple Books’ U.S. top paid charts, according to the Associated Press on May 27; Publishers Weekly later placed the hardcover at No. 1 on its June 2 hardcover nonfiction list. Those are separate rankings, not one universal or continuing “online bestseller” status.
What the bestseller rankings show
The word “bestseller” depends on which chart, format, market, and date you mean. The reported placements for Original Sin were:

The Apple Books positions are retailer-chart rankings for two different formats; the Publishers Weekly position is a separate trade list for hardcover nonfiction. They should not be combined into a single ranking or read as proof of a current position. The Associated Press also included the title among the top two books in its June 5, 2025 summary of Publishers Weekly’s hardcover nonfiction bestsellers.
What the 11,427 sales figure means
The June 2 Publishers Weekly list page reported 11,427 units in its sales-history entry for the period shown. That is a dated figure from that list page, not a lifetime sales total, a market-wide count, or a number that can be assigned to every edition.

What the book is about
Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again is written by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. Penguin Random House describes it as an account of Biden’s reelection decision amid what the authors characterize as serious decline and efforts to conceal its extent. That framing describes the book’s argument; the chart placements do not independently establish its allegations. Axios’s February 26, 2025 announcement likewise described the book as examining Biden’s decline and decision to run again.

The claim is supportable when it names the chart and date: AP reported strong Apple Books rankings on May 27, 2025, and Publishers Weekly ranked the hardcover No. 1 on its June 2 list. The evidence here establishes those dated chart appearances, not a comprehensive ranking across retailers, cumulative sales, market share, or a present-day bestseller position.
