Forbes estimates Oprah Winfrey’s net worth at $3.4 billion as of September 14, 2026. That is a dated, changeable estimate—not a disclosed or audited personal balance sheet. Forbes says her wealth is tied chiefly to her media career and business interests, including her talk show, Harpo Productions, film work, OWN and real estate.
How much is Oprah Winfrey worth?
Forbes’ real-time profile lists Winfrey’s net worth as $3.4 billion as of September 14, 2026. Forbes says its real-time figure reflects changes since 5 p.m. ET on the prior trading day; the profile’s editorial note says it was last updated June 3, 2026. Because the estimate can move, the date matters when quoting it. Forbes’ profile is the source for the figure.
This is an estimate by Forbes, not a figure Winfrey has publicly disclosed as a complete accounting of her assets and debts. The retrieved profile does not provide an asset-by-asset valuation or a full personal balance sheet, and there is no independently audited personal balance sheet in the cited material.
How did Oprah Winfrey build her fortune?
Television and Harpo Productions
Forbes traces Winfrey’s wealth to her long-running talk show and the business built around it. Harpo Productions has been central to that work, including production of the show and films. The financial importance of ownership and production is distinct from simply earning a television salary: business interests can retain value and generate returns over time.

Films and reinvested profits
Forbes says reinvested profits from the show and films—including The Color Purple, Beloved and Selma—add up to more than an estimated $2.8 billion. This is a component described by Forbes, not a separately audited subtotal to add to its $3.4 billion estimate.
OWN and a 2020 stake sale
Forbes says Winfrey sold most of her stake in OWN to the network’s owner in 2020 in exchange for shares in that company. Warner Bros. Discovery’s OWN pressroom says the network launched on January 1, 2011, as a joint venture between Harpo, Inc. and Warner Bros. The cited official description does not specify Winfrey’s precise current ownership percentage.

Real estate
Forbes identifies real estate as another part of Winfrey’s portfolio, but its profile does not give a property-by-property valuation. The available figure therefore should not be read as a sum of publicly itemized holdings.
What the estimate does—and does not—tell you
A net-worth estimate is generally an assessment of assets minus liabilities, but the cited Forbes profile does not disclose a complete inventory of Winfrey’s assets, debts, taxes or valuation methods for each private interest. The exact current values of private-company stakes and real estate, as well as any liabilities, remain unresolved in the cited sources. Forbes’ number is the best current attributed estimate available here, not independently verified private financial data.

Winfrey’s charitable work is separate from a personal net-worth calculation. The Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation says it focuses on education and reports a $13 million commitment to COVID-19 relief efforts in 2020. That historical commitment does not establish her current assets, liabilities or present net worth. The foundation’s About Us page provides its account of the work.

What to keep in mind when quoting the figure
- Identify Forbes as the estimate publisher and September 14, 2026, as the as-of date.
- Call it an estimate, not a disclosed or audited balance sheet.
- Treat the $2.8 billion figure as an estimated component Forbes describes, not a second fortune to add to the total.
- Do not infer a precise current OWN stake or real-estate value from the cited profiles; neither is itemized there.
