The one-day promotion began at midday on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, at participating restaurants, with the first 50 customers at each location reportedly eligible for one chicken. The offer has expired.
How the giveaway was meant to work
Oporto promoted the event for Portugal Day, also known as Dia de Portugal. Contemporary coverage reported that it applied at more than 200 Oporto restaurants nationwide, not necessarily every restaurant in the chain. The advertised total was 10,000 chickens, allocated on a first-come basis: the first 50 customers at each participating location could receive one.
That allocation explains the “get in quick” warning: the offer was limited by the number of customers served at each participating restaurant. Arriving early would not have guaranteed a chicken, and the reported 10,000 figure describes the promotion, not an independently audited count of how many were ultimately handed out. PerthNow and QSR Media Australia reported the advertised terms.
When it ran—and whether it is still available
The giveaway was scheduled to start at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, and was a one-day event. It is no longer available; this is a past promotion, not a current free-food offer.

The separate $5 Bondi Burger offer
Oporto also advertised a $5 Bondi Burger for Portugal Day. An archived OzBargain deal listing reproduced conditions including in-store purchase only, one per person, and no online or delivery orders. Those conditions are as reported in the listing, rather than independently verified official terms.
Why Oporto marked Portugal Day
Oporto’s head of marketing, Ben Simmons, described Dia de Portugal as a global event in Portuguese culture and said the chicken giveaway was intended to bring people together through food and generosity. The promotion connected the chain’s Portuguese-inspired flame-grilled chicken with the national day.
