Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program offers up to CA$200 for a qualifying heat-pump clothes dryer—not a flat $200 for every appliance. Rebates are smaller for other eligible appliances. To qualify, you must meet the program’s Ontario electricity-grid and replacement rules, buy a model on its eligible list, and apply within 60 days of purchase.

How much is the Ontario appliance rebate?

The program’s appliance rebates are fixed by category. These amounts are per qualified appliance under the Home Renovation Savings Program terms effective November 19, 2025.

Qualified appliance Rebate per appliance
Heat-pump clothes dryer CA$200
Induction cooktop or range CA$150
Clothes washer CA$75
Fridge CA$50
Freezer CA$50
Dishwasher CA$25

The Ontario announcement describes the expansion, while the program terms set the category amounts and eligibility rules. The program page lists appliances among upgrades that do not require a home energy assessment and advertises rebates up to $200 (Home Renovation Savings Program upgrade information).

Who can qualify?

The program is for residential electricity customers connected to the IESO-controlled grid through an Ontario local electricity utility or distribution company. The home where the new appliance is installed must also meet that grid condition. Cornwall Electric customers are excluded because they are not connected to the IESO-controlled grid. Condos and apartments can qualify if they meet the program criteria.

  • The purchase and installation must be after November 19, 2025.
  • The new appliance must replace an existing electric appliance. Replacing a gas-powered or other non-electric appliance is not eligible under the appliance terms.
  • The old appliance must be retired or properly recycled, not moved for continued use elsewhere.
  • The new appliance must be new, not used or refurbished, and its pretax price must be at least the rebate amount.
  • The exact model must appear on the program’s eligible product list. The list can change, so check the model immediately before buying; a retailer listing or efficiency label alone does not establish eligibility.

How to apply for the rebate

  1. Check the current eligible-model list. Confirm the exact model is listed before purchase; the program terms define eligibility by reference to this list.
  2. Buy and install the appliance. Purchases must be made after the program’s November 19, 2025 launch date, and the unit must replace an existing electric appliance at the qualifying residence. The Ontario announcement says eligible products can be purchased from any retailer, online or in-store.
  3. Retire or recycle the old unit. Do not redeploy it elsewhere.
  4. Submit an application within 60 days of purchase. Upload an invoice image that clearly shows the purchase date, model, pretax cost, and retailer as separate details.

The program terms say payment is by cheque or e-transfer, while reserving the IESO’s right to specify another method. The Ontario government announcement said payment would be issued within 60 days of approval; that is the stated program timing, not a guarantee of an individual application’s approval or payment date.

Limits and things to check before relying on the rebate

  • A household may receive up to two post-purchase rebates per appliance.
  • This rebate cannot be combined with another rebate from the program administrators or the Government of Ontario.
  • Applications are reviewed, and submitting one does not guarantee payment.
  • The program terms say the stream may change. Confirm the current terms and eligible model before making a purchase.

The Home Renovation Savings Program is jointly delivered by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, with Ontario government support (program home page). The appliance figures are rebates, not estimates of energy-bill savings; the program sources do not provide measured savings results for this appliance stream.
