Can you get an Ontario fishing licence at Canadian Tire?
Yes, at some branches. Canadian Tire’s official listings identify fishing-licence service at stores in Collingwood, Peterborough and Dryden. These examples do not establish that every Canadian Tire sells licences.
Before travelling, check your chosen branch’s current store page or phone the store to confirm that it offers the service. Canadian Tire is one purchase option, not the only one.
Where else can you buy an Ontario fishing licence?
You can purchase through Ontario’s Fish and Wildlife Licensing Service, a participating ServiceOntario location or an authorized licence issuer. Use Ontario’s licence-issuer directory to look for a nearby seller; the government advises contacting a location before visiting to verify it is open to the public.

Phone purchases are available for a three-year fishing licence when renewing an Outdoors Card. The Ontario purchase and licensing guidance is available in the resident and non-resident licence information.

The amounts below are Ontario government fees in Canadian dollars for 2026, effective through December 31, 2026. Fees are subject to 13% HST. The price depends on residency, duration and licence class. Sport licences use normal catch limits; conservation licences have reduced catch limits. Who needs an Outdoors Card and fishing licence?
In general, anglers aged 18 through 64 need a valid Outdoors Card and a fishing licence. There are important exceptions:
- A one-day sport licence does not require an Outdoors Card.
- Ontario residents and Canadian residents under 18 or 65 and older do not need to buy an Outdoors Card or fishing licence if they carry qualifying government identification that states their name and date of birth.
The Outdoors Card is valid for three calendar years. Fishing licences are available for one or three calendar years, depending on the product. The listed eight-day options are for non-Canadian residents.

How to buy and what to carry
- Choose your purchase route: use Ontario’s Fish and Wildlife Licensing Service, a participating ServiceOntario location or an authorized licence issuer. For Canadian Tire, confirm the specific branch first.
- Select the right licence: choose the residency category, duration and sport or conservation class that applies to you. Review the applicable catch limits in Ontario’s current regulations.
- Keep your licence summary: after purchase, retain it digitally or print it. Ontario Regulation 120/26 states that “a sport fishing licence shall consist of a licence summary that identifies the sport fishing licence.”
- Carry the summary while waiting for your card: an Outdoors Card is mailed and may take up to 20 days to arrive. The licence summary can be carried digitally or on paper during that time.
