Online CEUs can count toward Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) renewal when the activity is approved for your program and category, and the credit is recorded to your certification account. Most CCAs must earn 40 CEUs in each two-year cycle, including at least 20 Board Approved CEUs; credits do not carry into the next cycle. Check your own CEU statement and program rules before enrolling.
How many CEUs does a CCA need?
The general CCA maintenance requirement is 40 continuing education units (CEUs) per two-year cycle, with at least 20 designated Board Approved. CEUs do not carry forward to the next cycle. The general program lists four categories: Nutrient Management, Soil & Water Management, Integrated Pest Management, and Crop Management. See the official CCA CEU maintenance requirements and your account statement for your remaining totals and category needs.
Self-reported credits may contribute to the overall minimum and a category, but self-reporting does not replace the requirement for 20 Board Approved CEUs. The CCA program says the CEU requirement is intended to support continued growth and help ensure growers receive accurate, technologically current recommendations.
Check your credential’s specific rules
Requirements can differ by credential or program. The International CCA program has its own details. In addition, an update to the ICCA policy manual dated March 2026 states that at least one professional ethics credit is required in each two-year cycle starting in 2026. Review the 2026 ICCA Policy Manual update and confirm which rules apply to your certification; do not assume an international rule applies to every CCA.

Do online CEUs count for CCA renewal?
Yes, online learning can count when the specific activity is approved for your applicable CCA program and category, and you meet its completion requirements. An online format alone does not establish approval. Before you register or pay, check the course’s current approval status, category, credit amount, cost, access period, and whether it is included in a subscription.
The official Get CEUs catalog lists more than 230 courses on the page reviewed, including live and recorded webinars, Crops & Soils articles and quizzes, and podcasts. That catalog figure can change, and not every listing necessarily fits every adviser’s program or category. The same page says course CEUs are added automatically after completion. A live webinar registration includes access to its recording for 30 days.

Online CCA CEU options and costs
ASA Online Classroom subscription
The ASA Online Classroom subscription page describes a one-year subscription with unlimited access to most classroom content, including webinar recordings, training modules, articles and quizzes, and podcasts. A few multi-module courses are excluded. The page lists $130 per year for Society Members and Certified Professionals and $210 per year for others; prices and included content can change, so confirm the current terms before subscribing. Compare the subscription’s annual cost with the specific courses you expect to complete, and verify each course’s approval and category rather than assuming all included content suits your remaining requirements.
Use your existing certification account when using the ASA classroom. The subscription page warns that creating a new account to add CEUs will not credit those units to your certification.

Other online activities
The official catalog and event calendar are starting points for finding webinars, recordings, quizzes, and podcasts. Individual providers may also offer eligible online activities. For example, Colorado CCA identifies a free Colorado State University course and Nutrien eKonomics podcasts and webinars that can qualify for various credits when marked eligible. These are Colorado-program examples, not a guarantee of nationwide eligibility or current availability. Check the activity’s current listing and your own program’s rules.
A practical way to make sure credits count
- Review your CEU statement. Check total credits remaining, category balances, and how many Board Approved units you still need in the maintenance information.
- Verify the activity before enrolling. In the official CEU catalog or event listing, confirm current approval, the applicable category, credit amount, format, price, and access terms. When using an outside provider, verify that the activity qualifies for your particular program.
- Keep account attribution intact. For the ASA Online Classroom, sign in with the account already associated with your CCA certification; a new account will not transfer credits to your certification record.
- Confirm the credit posted. After completion, check the correct account and category. If a Board Approved activity is missing, the maintenance page explains how to report missing credits and asks for identifying details about the activity.
- Recheck cycle-specific requirements before renewal. Confirm your applicable cycle and any program-specific conditions, including the ethics credit rule for ICCA cycles beginning in 2026 where it applies.
What to compare before paying
When deciding between a subscription and individual activities, compare the actual eligible learning you expect to use, not just the advertised course count or access model.
Rank #4
- Approval: Is the particular activity currently approved for your program?
- Category and credits: Does it fill a category you need, and how many units does it award?
- Format and access: Is it live, recorded, self-paced, or an article-and-quiz activity? How long can you access it?
- Total cost: Is the activity included in a subscription, and does the subscription’s access period match your plans?
- Geography and program: Is eligibility limited to a state or credential program?
- Posting: Will credit be reported automatically to the right account, or will you need to submit information?
The CCA program reports that more than 13,000 CCAs in North America search for continuing education each year and that an average total of 260,000 CEUs are earned annually. The program page does not state the year for those figures, and they are program-reported rather than an independently verified market estimate.
