Seattle-based One More Game shelved Spellcraft, a competitive free-to-play strategy game it had worked on for more than three years, and restarted development around SWAPMEAT, a cooperative shooter set on alien worlds. Co-founder Jamie Stormbreaker described the change as a decision about audience fit and the studio’s values—not proof that every player or developer is moving away from competitive games.
Why One More Game shelved Spellcraft
In an October 17, 2025 report, GeekWire said One More Game had secured $22 million in funding in 2022, before deciding to shelve Spellcraft. The reported funding figure does not establish how much was spent on that project.
Stormbreaker said the studio had lost confidence that Spellcraft’s 1v1 player-versus-player free-to-play business model fit its company values. He also described a perceived shift in interest from competitive matches with strangers toward games people could play with friends. That is the co-founder’s explanation of the decision, not an independently measured industry-wide trend.
“We were pushing the boundaries of what the next hybrid real-time strategy could be, but ultimately we didn’t have confidence that the 1v1 PvP free-to-play business model fit our company values, so it was best for us to switch gears,” Stormbreaker told GeekWire.

How SWAPMEAT differs from Spellcraft
The reboot changed more than the setting. It replaced competitive real-time strategy with a comedic, squad-based shooter, and a free-to-play model with an upfront purchase. The comparison is about the projects One More Game described, not a claim that one format is inherently better.
| Element | Spellcraft | SWAPMEAT |
|---|---|---|
| Genre | Hybrid real-time strategy | Cooperative third-person shooter |
| Player relationship | Competitive 1v1 matches | Play cooperatively with friends; the initial Early Access build supported up to four players, according to the studio |
| Business model | Planned free-to-play | Described by the studio as an upfront-purchase game |
| Core activity | Competitive strategy; further gameplay details are not established in GeekWire’s report | Fight alien enemies, scavenge their body parts, and attach those parts to gain abilities |
What game is SWAPMEAT?
SWAPMEAT is a co-op shooter in which players battle creatures on alien worlds and take body parts from defeated enemies. Attaching those parts gives a player new abilities. One More Game called this process “meat mixing”; the phrase also inspired the game’s name, according to GeekWire.

How the studio says it develops the game
Stormbreaker called One More Game’s approach “alpha-driven development”: show a game to players early, listen to criticism, make changes, and bring back another iteration. GeekWire reported that the team presented SWAPMEAT at PAX East, Gamescom, and PAX West in 2025 and adjusted the game based on player feedback. That describes the studio’s process; it does not establish a particular commercial outcome.
GeekWire described One More Game as a fully remote, 13-person team in its October 2025 report. The co-founders are Jamie Stormbreaker and Patrick Wyatt. The article noted Wyatt’s work at Blizzard and his co-founding of ArenaNet, as well as Stormbreaker’s prior work at ArenaNet, Riot Games, and Undead Labs. These are details reported at that time, not a verified account of the studio’s current headcount or employment.
