United’s Super Bowl ad promotes Starlink Wi-Fi that the airline said was already installed on more than 300 regional aircraft as of February 2, 2026—not just a service it hopes to offer someday. But availability still depends on the aircraft assigned to a particular flight, and the ad does not mean every United plane has Starlink.
What United’s ad shows—and what “one giant leap” means
United describes the commercial as a spaceflight-inspired scene. Passengers use inflight Wi-Fi to watch live sports, play online games and check home security cameras. The voiceover mimics communication between ground control and the cockpit before concluding: “It’s Wi-Fi that actually works? That’s one giant leap for inflight Wi-Fi.”
The creative idea is tied to an operational rollout: the airline’s claim is that passengers were already using the service on equipped planes when it announced the campaign. United Chief Advertising Officer Maggie Schmerin said the spot was intended to highlight what Starlink Wi-Fi makes possible for customers.
How much of United’s fleet had Starlink?
In its February 2, 2026 announcement, United reported that it had equipped more than 300 aircraft in most of its two-cabin regional fleet in less than a year. It said more than 25% of its daily departures—1,200 flights—had Starlink Wi-Fi at that time. These are United’s reported figures, not independently audited counts. United’s February 2, 2026 announcement provides the company’s figures and rollout plans.

United also said that over the preceding 10 months, more than 7 million passengers had flown on equipped aircraft across more than 129,000 flights, and that the system had powered 3.7 million devices. The airline reported that Wi-Fi customer satisfaction scores on those aircraft had nearly doubled. Its announcement does not state the survey method, sample size, baseline or comparison period, so that satisfaction result should be understood as a company claim rather than a documented independent finding.
What was still planned for mainline aircraft
Regional installations were underway, but United described broader mainline coverage as a future target. The airline said it expected to equip more than 500 mainline aircraft by the end of 2026, which would bring its total Starlink-equipped fleet to more than 800. That was a forecast in the February announcement, not confirmation that those installations were completed.

United also said it and Starlink would seek FAA approval for installation and safe operation across more than a dozen aircraft models. The announcement named Boeing 737-900ERs, the Airbus A321 family and Boeing 777s among them. Those approval efforts were described as forthcoming, not complete.
Where the Super Bowl ad was scheduled to air
United said the commercial would air in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis and Kansas City—markets where its Starlink-equipped regional aircraft flew. At the time of the announcement, the airline reported that more than 63% of its flights in Indianapolis, more than 53% in Kansas City and more than 51% in Cincinnati had Starlink.

That local placement connected the campaign to markets where travelers could plausibly encounter the service. It was not a notice that every flight in those cities, or across United’s network, had Starlink.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does United have Starlink Wi-Fi, and how can you tell if your flight has it?
Yes. United said Starlink was operating on equipped regional aircraft and reported 1,200 daily departures with the service as of February 2, 2026. But an itinerary alone does not establish which aircraft will operate it. Because availability varies by aircraft and flight, the announcement cannot confirm whether a particular future trip will have Starlink.

United Vice President of Digital Technology Grant Milstead called the regional milestone “just the beginning” and said more than 500 mainline aircraft were expected to be equipped by the end of 2026. That statement reinforces the distinction between a service already in use on some planes and a fleet expansion that was still a plan.
