Olivia Wilde Sells Studio City Home for $5.23 Million—About $670,000 Below Purchase Price

Wilde’s reported $5.23 million sale price was about $670,000 below the reported purchase price, but the figures do not establish a net loss or her reason for selling.

Olivia Wilde reportedly sold her Studio City home for $5.23 million after buying it for $5.9 million. Those reported prices imply a gross difference of about $670,000—not a verified $700,000 net loss. The figures do not account for transaction costs, taxes, renovations, financing or the costs of owning the property.

What the reported sale prices show

Realtor.com reported that Wilde’s Studio City property sold for $5.23 million after she purchased it for $5.9 million. Subtracting the sale price from the purchase price gives a gross price difference of approximately $670,000. The headline figure of $700,000 is a rounded description, not an exact accounting of Wilde’s financial result. Realtor.com

$6.2 million Reported asking price before the sale, according to Realtor.com.
$5.23 million Reported sale price, according to Realtor.com.
About $670,000 Arithmetic difference between the reported purchase and sale prices; it is not a verified net loss.

Why the price gap is not the same as a net loss

A comparison of the purchase and sale prices leaves out the costs and any other financial factors that would be needed to calculate the owner’s actual net result. The cited reporting does not establish the amounts paid for closing costs, taxes, renovations, financing or carrying costs. Nor does it state Wilde’s net proceeds from the sale. Calling the result an exact loss would therefore claim more than the available figures show.

Details of Wilde’s Studio City home

The Realtor.com report describes a home on a 0.66-acre lot with about 3,700 square feet, four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. The property listing description, as relayed by Realtor.com, credits the original design to architect Barbara Bestor and says the home received an extensive refresh in 2015. Listed features include an open-plan interior, chef’s kitchen, patio and outdoor kitchen, pool, spa, fireplace and detached guesthouse. Realtor.com

Reports differ on when she bought it

Realtor.com says Wilde purchased the house in March 2023. Traded’s deal page records a $5.9 million purchase closing on July 26, 2023. Those dates do not match, so the purchase month is unclear from these accounts. Realtor.com says the sale closed on December 2 but does not specify the year in the passage reviewed. The reports are not primary county deed records, and no direct statement from Wilde about the transaction is cited. Traded

This was not Wilde’s earlier Los Feliz property

The Studio City sale is separate from Wilde’s earlier Los Feliz home. In 2013, the Los Angeles Times reported that the Los Feliz property sold for $2,190,950 after a $2.295 million purchase in 2011. Those figures concern a different home and should not be combined with the Studio City transaction. Los Angeles Times

What is known about the reason for the sale

The reporting does not confirm Wilde’s reason for selling. A possible move to London and explanations tied to her personal life appear as speculation, not as a stated motive from Wilde. Realtor.com also quotes the listing’s description of the home as having “the spirit of L.A. living—architectural pedigree, seamless indoor-outdoor flow, and layered, artful detail”; that is listing language, not a quote from Wilde about the sale.
