When did Ola stop operating in Australia?
On April 9, 2024, The West Australian reported that Ola was ending rideshare operations in Australia and New Zealand. The paper said a customer email advised that rides could no longer be booked from April 12, 2024.

A separate report published the same day said Perth users had already been restricted, while users in Sydney and Melbourne could keep booking until April 12. It did not establish the precise time Perth access ended or whether the restriction affected every Perth customer. A Perth Reddit post dated April 8 also described one user being unable to use Ola; that is an individual account, not proof of a universal outage or a lack of advance notice.
Why did Ola stop working in Perth?
The contemporaneous reporting did not disclose a reason for Ola’s departure. Without a public explanation in those reports, it would be speculation to attribute the closure to a particular business, regulatory, or operational cause.

Could former customers still access their Ola accounts?
The Daily Aus reported in April 2024 that account and account-information access would remain available for one month after ride services stopped, and that dedicated customer support would end the following month. These were temporary arrangements reported at the time, not a guarantee that accounts or support remain available now.
The reporting does not establish whether customers could recover account balances, transfer credits, or obtain compensation. If you still have an official Ola account or support route available, use that channel and keep receipts and correspondence. Do not assume a credit or refund is available without confirmation.

How to find authorised transport providers in WA
For current options, check the Western Australian Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure’s authorised on-demand booking provider register. It lists categories including taxis, rideshare or ride-sourcing, charter, limousine, and bus services. Check the current entries and confirm that a provider serves your particular town or route; a state register is not a guarantee that a service operates everywhere in WA.

The department’s fare guidance distinguishes taxi trips taken from a rank or hailed from other on-demand services, including rideshare. Maximum metered fares apply to rank-or-hail taxi trips. Other on-demand services do not have regulated minimum or maximum fares; the passenger and provider must agree the fare before travel, and record that agreement in writing, including electronically.

Check the department’s current guidance and confirm the fare in the booking process before travelling. Keep the written or electronic fare agreement in case you need to refer to it later.
