Nvidia RTX 50 Pricing Is Already Going Bonkers: What US Buyers Are Seeing

RTX 50 prices vary sharply by model and source. See reported US price snapshots against NVIDIA’s launch MSRPs and how to assess a listing.

Some US RTX 50-series prices are far above NVIDIA’s launch prices, but the gap depends on the model and on how a price is measured. Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 price index listed the RTX 5090 at $4,288 against its $1,999 launch MSRP; its figures for the RTX 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070 showed smaller premiums. These are dated market snapshots—not guaranteed prices or proof that every card is selling for the same amount.

How much do RTX 50-series cards cost compared with launch MSRP?

NVIDIA announced the following US launch prices on January 6, 2025. They are useful reference points, not promises about current retail prices or availability.

Model US launch MSRP Tom’s Hardware 2026 “Best US Price” Difference from launch MSRP
RTX 5090 $1,999 $4,288 $2,289 higher (about 114%)
RTX 5080 $999 $1,256 $257 higher (about 26%)
RTX 5070 Ti $749 $949 $200 higher (about 27%)
RTX 5070 $549 $629 $80 higher (about 15%)

The launch prices come from NVIDIA’s January 6, 2025 announcement; the later figures are the index values reported by Tom’s Hardware. A best-price index is not the same thing as a median across listings, a completed sale, or an offer available from every retailer.

Why prices vary from report to report

Price trackers describe different slices of the market. Tom’s Hardware’s August 10, 2026 comparison looked at median Newegg listing prices: it reported the RTX 5070 median up 36% and the RTX 5060 up 27%, while the RTX 5070 Ti midpoint was unchanged from its prior check. Those percentages describe that outlet’s listing comparison, not a universal increase across retailers.

  • A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis

A separate PC Gamer price-watch page, accessed October 8, 2026, displayed snapshots of $1,654 for the RTX 5080 and $1,150 for the RTX 5070 Ti, and said it could not find the RTX 5090 from reputable sellers when checked. Because that page changes as offers change, its prices and stock status should be treated as a dated snapshot rather than a standing quote.

The differences between these reports are not necessarily contradictions: an index, a median of marketplace listings, and selected retailer offers can produce different numbers. Tom’s Hardware also cited silicon supply constraints, memory costs, and limited below-MSRP discounts as context for pricing. Those factors do not establish one complete cause for every model or seller.

How to judge a listing before you buy

Compare offers on the same basis instead of treating a headline price as the market price. For a specific GeForce RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 Ti graphics card, check:

  • Exact model: Confirm the GPU tier and the particular card listing; do not compare one RTX 50 model’s price with another model’s MSRP.
  • Price and date: Record the current quoted US-dollar price and when you checked it. Compare it with that model’s launch MSRP, while recognizing that launch MSRP is historical context.
  • Seller and condition: Check who is actually selling the card and whether it is new, used, or otherwise described. A marketplace listing is not automatically equivalent to a retailer’s direct offer.
  • Availability: Verify that the item is in stock and purchasable at the displayed price; an unavailable listing or old price-watch entry does not tell you what you can buy now.
  • Metric: Keep a best-price figure, a listing median, and an individual retailer offer distinct. They answer different questions.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series product page identifies the product family, while the retailer listing is what determines the offer, seller, and stock status you can verify at purchase time.
