Nvidia Reclaimed the World’s Most Valuable Public Company Title in June 2025—Here’s Why

Nvidia’s June 2025 market-cap milestone was powered chiefly by AI data centers. Robotics offered a possible next growth path, but was not yet a comparable reported revenue source.

Nvidia reclaimed the top spot among publicly traded companies by market capitalization on June 25, 2025, closing at a record $154.31 per share and an estimated $3.77 trillion valuation. AI data-center demand was the immediate financial force behind the milestone; robotics was a longer-term growth prospect, not a comparable source of revenue at the time. The distinction matters for anyone assessing the headline as a business story—or as context for an investment decision.

What happened on June 25, 2025?

Nvidia shares rose more than 4% during the June 25, 2025 trading session and closed at $154.31. Based on market capitalization—the market value of a company’s outstanding shares—Nvidia was valued at approximately $3.77 trillion, ahead of Microsoft at about $3.66 trillion and Apple at about $3.01 trillion. The figures and ranking were reported after the close of that session by TechTimes.

This was a ranking of publicly traded companies by equity market value, not a comparison of every private, state-owned, or other organization. It was also a point-in-time result based on closing prices, not a permanent title or a measure of which company had the most revenue, assets, or employees. “Again” reflects the fact that Nvidia had previously moved into the top position as its share price and those of Apple and Microsoft fluctuated.

The June 2025 milestone is historical. It should not be read as a statement of which company leads the ranking now: market capitalization changes with share prices and share counts, and a current ranking requires current market data.

Why investors valued Nvidia so highly

AI data centers were the financial engine

Nvidia’s fiscal 2025 results showed how quickly demand for AI computing was translating into sales. For the fiscal year, the company reported $130.5 billion in revenue, up 114% year over year, including $115.2 billion from Data Center, up 142%. Nvidia attributed much of the increase to demand for Hopper-based accelerated computing used for large language models, recommendation engines, and generative AI applications. Those figures are from the company’s fiscal 2025 results filing.

Subsequent results reinforce the importance of that business, though they do not change what drove the June 2025 ranking. Nvidia’s fiscal 2026 filing reported $215.9 billion in total revenue, up 65%, and $193.737 billion in Data Center revenue, up 68%. Fiscal years are Nvidia’s reporting periods, not calendar years. The figures appear in its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K.

Nvidia sells a platform, not just a chip

AI customers need more than processors. Nvidia’s platform combines GPUs and CPUs with high-speed networking, complete systems, software, algorithms, and services. Its annual filing describes offerings across Data Center, Gaming, Professional Visualization, and Automotive markets. That wider bundle can make Nvidia valuable to customers building and operating AI infrastructure, while giving it a chance to capture more of the spending than a component-only supplier. CUDA adds ecosystem value—but is not an unbreakable moat

CUDA is Nvidia’s programming environment for its hardware. Years of developer use and software optimization help make Nvidia GPUs familiar and useful across AI workflows. Moving a workload to a different accelerator can involve porting code, tuning performance, and changing operational tools, which may reinforce demand for Nvidia. But this advantage is not absolute: AMD’s ROCm, cloud providers’ custom accelerators, Google TPU systems, and other chips are alternatives for some workloads.

Investors were also looking beyond the revenue already reported, including expectations for continued AI infrastructure spending and adoption of newer systems such as Blackwell. A market price reflects expectations about future earnings as well as current business results; it does not guarantee that expected growth will arrive.

Where robotics fits into Nvidia’s growth story

Nvidia’s robotics strategy is an attempt to supply the computing and development environment around robots, rather than to become primarily a manufacturer of robot hardware. The idea is to use AI models, simulation, and accelerated computing to help teams train, test, and deploy systems in the physical world. Nvidia described robotics and physical-AI initiatives in its 2025 proxy materials and its fiscal 2026 shareholder materials.

  • Cosmos: a platform for physical-AI and world-model development.
  • Omniverse: simulation and digital-twin tools that can support virtual environments, synthetic data, and testing.
  • DRIVE and Alpamayo: autonomous-vehicle platforms and related development work identified by Nvidia.
  • Jetson: embedded computing for deploying AI at the edge, including robotics use cases.

These offerings give Nvidia a possible route into future robotics and autonomous-vehicle workloads: developers may use its tools before a robot or vehicle reaches large-scale commercial production. That is a strategic opportunity, not evidence that robots were already driving Nvidia’s earnings.

What the revenue figures say about robotics today

Nvidia does not report robotics as a separate major revenue segment. Its fiscal 2026 filing instead reports specialized markets such as Data Center and Automotive. That makes it important not to treat Automotive as a full measure of robotics, or to imply that a standalone robotics business is already comparable to AI infrastructure.

Reported market Nvidia fiscal 2026 revenue
Data Center $193.737 billion
Gaming $16.042 billion
Professional Visualization $3.191 billion
Automotive $2.349 billion
OEM and Other $619 million

These fiscal 2026 market figures are reported in Nvidia’s Form 10-K. Automotive revenue rose 39% that year, but remained a small fraction of Data Center revenue. The financial evidence therefore supports a two-part explanation: data-center AI was the established growth engine, while robotics and physical AI were potential extensions of Nvidia’s platform.

Risks that could challenge the valuation

Reliance on a concentrated group of large customers

AI infrastructure spending is heavily influenced by cloud providers and other large technology companies. Nvidia warns in its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K that dependence on a limited number of large customers can expose revenue to volatility. If major buyers slow or defer data-center projects, suppliers can feel the effects.

Export controls and China-related exposure

In its first-quarter fiscal 2026 filing, Nvidia disclosed a $4.5 billion charge related to excess inventory and purchase obligations after U.S. export licensing requirements affected H20 products. This was a specific accounting charge, not a recurring estimate of future losses; the details are in the quarterly filing. TechTimes also reported in June 2025 that Nvidia expected an approximately $8 billion second-quarter revenue impact from restrictions affecting China-related H20 sales. That was a forecast at the time, not a current loss figure or a realized charge; see the June 2025 report.

Competition and customers seeking alternatives

AMD and other accelerator suppliers compete for AI workloads, while cloud and technology companies are developing custom silicon to reduce dependence on outside suppliers. Chinese semiconductor companies are also seeking alternatives to restricted Nvidia products. If competing systems improve in performance per dollar, or become easier to deploy, Nvidia could face pressure on pricing and market share.

Growth expectations, costs, and execution

A very large market capitalization leaves less room for disappointing results if the share price assumes continued rapid growth. Risks include weaker-than-expected AI spending, more efficient models that reduce computing needs per task, supply-chain bottlenecks, or pressure on margins as Nvidia sells more complete systems. Regulatory scrutiny and shifts away from high-growth technology stocks can also affect a valuation independently of the company’s day-to-day product performance.

What the milestone does—and does not—prove

Nvidia’s June 2025 ranking showed that investors placed exceptional value on its position in AI computing and expectations for its future growth. It did not prove that robotics was already a major source of sales, that Nvidia would dominate robotics, or that AI infrastructure spending would keep accelerating. For readers weighing the company as an investment, the useful distinction is between reported results—especially Data Center revenue—and future opportunities such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, and physical AI. Neither a market-cap record nor a strategic announcement resolves the risks attached to those expectations.
