What the distribution does—and does not—tell investors
The $0.1535 figure is a distribution amount per share, not a yield or a measure of investment performance. Nuveen states: “The distribution rate should not be confused with yield or performance.” A yield calculation would require a dated share price and a clearly stated calculation method; the announcement alone does not provide those.

Nuveen describes JLS as a closed-end fund. Its market price and net asset value are separate figures, and the distribution amount alone does not show how either has changed or what an investor’s total return has been. No yield or total-return figure for this announcement is established by the cited report.
How to interpret distribution-source estimates
Nuveen explains that when a distribution is estimated to include amounts beyond net investment income, it provides a Section 19(a) notice with the best estimate of the distribution’s sources at that time. That estimate can differ from the final tax characterization reported after the year ends; it should not be treated as a definitive statement of an investor’s tax result.
