Nuuly costs $98 per month plus applicable tax for six rental items, with shipping included. It may suit people who want several new-to-them outfits in a month, but it is a recurring subscription—not a one-time rental—and the value depends on whether you use the items you select. Nuuly says you can pause or cancel anytime; check the current account terms and timing before subscribing or stopping.

What Nuuly costs and what you get

Nuuly’s standard plan is $98 per month plus applicable tax. It includes six selected rental items and shipping, according to the company’s homepage and billing FAQ. The FAQ also says members can add up to four bonus items for $22 each.

When checked on October 8, 2026, Nuuly’s homepage displayed a first-month offer of $28 off with code TRYNUULY: $70 for the first month, followed by the regular $98 monthly rate. Promotions can change or expire, so confirm the offer and recurring price on the checkout page.

The plan is most compelling if you expect to wear several different pieces in a month—for example, to refresh everyday outfits or have options for multiple occasions. If you need only one garment, or your main goal is to build a permanent wardrobe, paying for six monthly rentals may be a poor fit. That is a budget judgment based on the plan structure, not a measured savings comparison.

Buying items you want to keep

Nuuly lets members buy rental items, but the sources reviewed do not establish a single buyout price. Check the price shown for the particular item rather than assuming a fixed discount.

How the subscription works

Nuuly is a recurring monthly rental service. It does not offer one-time rentals, according to The Guardian’s June 2026 comparison. The company says members can pause or cancel anytime, but the pages reviewed do not establish a universal cutoff for returns or billing. Check the timing and current terms in your account before making a change.

  1. Choose six items. Browse the available catalog and select the pieces you want for your rental.
  2. Check item details. Review each listing’s size information, measurements, reviews, and customer photos if available. Inventory and sizes vary by item.
  3. Wear the items during your rental. If you decide to keep a piece, check its individual purchase price.
  4. Return the rental. Nuuly says to send items back without washing them. Follow the return instructions provided with your order and confirm your account’s timing.

Selection, sizing, and fit

Nuuly advertises sizes XXS–5X, plus petite, tall, adaptive, and maternity assortments. Its catalog description highlights hundreds of brands and thousands of styles, including apparel from Anthropologie, Free People, and Urban Outfitters. These are company descriptions of the assortment, not a guarantee that a particular brand, style, or size will be available when you shop.

The Guardian’s June 12, 2026 comparison tested Nuuly in XS and S. Reporter Karen Yuan found that stock varied by item, while the pieces she tried generally fit well and seemed true to size. In the same small test, one item did not disclose its material, and one mesh mini dress was fraying at the sleeves and hems. Those observations describe a limited editorial sample; they do not establish typical fit or garment condition. For a time-sensitive event, inspect the listing carefully and keep a backup option.

Cleaning, damage, and returns

Nuuly says you should return items without washing them. The company says its facility cleans and sanitizes garments using wet and dry cleaning methods, and that its dry-cleaning solvent is PERC- and TCE-free. It also says rental bags are cleaned between rentals. These are Nuuly’s descriptions of its process, not an independent audit.

Nuuly’s billing and care pages say there are no damage, cleaning, or late fees, and ask members to send damaged pieces back with the rest of the rental so the company can handle them. The homepage says shipping is included. Treat these as the company’s stated terms; the pages reviewed do not fully explain every exception or how disputes are handled.

The Guardian tester described the return as quick and easy, an individual experience rather than a guarantee for every carrier handoff or account. Nuuly’s billing FAQ says a lost return label can be reprinted from account history and that labels expire after three months.

What independent coverage says—and does not say

In its June 2026 rental comparison, The Guardian named Nuuly “Best for every day” and gave it five stars within that article’s format. It praised the broad selection and easy-to-navigate interface; its tester also reported variable XS/S availability, generally good fit, the missing material information on one item, and the fraying mini dress. The testers said they would renew. This is a small editorial test, not a customer-satisfaction survey or a prediction of your experience.

The Washington Post’s May 14, 2026 report described Nuuly as part of URBN, the parent company associated with Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Anthropologie. It also reported fulfillment operations in Levittown, Pennsylvania, and a newer large facility in Kansas City, Missouri. That is company and operations context, not a service guarantee.

The Atlantic reported 477,000 active monthly subscribers in a June 2026 feature. That is a dated figure reported by The Atlantic, not a verified count for October 2026. A journalist in the same feature described spending roughly $8,000 on Nuuly over several years; that personal account is not a representative estimate of what subscribers spend.

Is Nuuly worth it?

Nuuly is worth considering if you want a rotating wardrobe, expect to use several of your six monthly selections, and are comfortable with a subscription rather than a single event rental. The monthly charge is harder to justify if you want only one outfit, need dependable access to a particular item or size, or mainly want clothes to keep. There is not enough evidence here to claim that renting automatically saves money or is more sustainable than buying.

Before paying, check the current monthly rate and promotion, confirm the items and sizes you actually want are available, and read the account-specific timing for returns, pausing, or cancellation. The plan’s advertised breadth is useful for browsing, but it cannot guarantee that a specific piece will be in stock or match your expectations.
