The memory stock is SK hynix Inc.; U.S. investors can identify its American depositary shares by the Nasdaq ticker SKHY. The strongest evidence for its “gaining share” story is in high-bandwidth memory (HBM), not a newly verified increase in every part of its memory business. Counterpoint figures relayed by SK hynix put the company at 62% of HBM shipments in Q2 2025 and 57% of HBM revenue in Q3 2025—different measures from different quarters, not a single current market-share figure.
What makes SK hynix stand out?
SK hynix makes several kinds of memory, including HBM and other DRAM products, as well as NAND products and enterprise solid-state drives. HBM is drawing attention because it is a specialist type of memory used in AI computing systems. The investment case is therefore broader than one product: demand for AI infrastructure could support HBM, AI-server DRAM and enterprise storage, but those businesses do not all have the same market dynamics.

There is evidence of a strong recent operating period. In a preliminary results release dated July 29, 2026, SK hynix reported Q2 revenue of 79.3187 trillion won and operating profit of 60.5426 trillion won, describing both as quarterly records. The company attributed the results to high-value products including HBM, AI-server DRAM and enterprise SSDs amid AI infrastructure demand. These are company-reported results for one quarter, not proof that the same growth or profitability will continue.

Is SK hynix gaining HBM market share?
The available figures support a strong HBM position, but their dates and denominators matter. SK hynix’s January 5, 2026 outlook page relayed Counterpoint Research estimates of 62% of HBM shipments as of Q2 2025 and 57% of HBM revenue as of Q3 2025. Shipment share counts units shipped; revenue share measures sales value. Different results are possible because products, prices and measurement periods differ.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo-Switch (NOT Nintendo-Switch 2)
- Expand your storage in a flash: ideal for Android smartphones and tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows laptops.
- Increase your TV show, movie, and Full HD video[4] recording collections dramatically with up to a massive 1.5TB[1].
- Transfer files fast with up to 150MB/s[2] read speeds and SanDisk MobileMate USB micro 3.0 microSD card reader[6].
- Load apps faster with A1-rated performance[3].
Those estimates do not establish SK hynix’s share in 2026, nor do they show that its share is rising continuously. They also say nothing by themselves about its share of the entire DRAM or NAND markets. “Gaining share” is best read as a thesis about a fast-growing HBM segment, not as a verified claim of expanding share across all memory products.
What has the company said about its next products and customers?
HBM4 ramp
SK hynix said in its July 29, 2026 release that mass shipments of HBM4 began in Q2 and production would ramp in the second half of the year. That is evidence of the company’s stated product progress. It does not independently confirm how much customers will buy, the yields or margins achieved during the ramp, or whether the ramp will proceed on schedule.

Customer agreements
The same release said the company had finalized long-term agreements with around 10 customers, including strategic partners, while discussions with other major industry clients continued. Such agreements may improve visibility, but the release did not provide contract volumes, pricing terms or a guarantee of future revenue. They should not be treated as a promise of a particular earnings outcome.
How does SK hynix compare with Micron and Sandisk?
The useful comparison is exposure, rather than assuming the three companies are interchangeable bets on “memory.” The Motley Fool’s October 9 article characterizes Sandisk as a NAND pure play and compares it with SK hynix and Micron. The table separates those descriptions and estimates from the company’s own reported results.

The forward earnings multiples are not a like-for-like verdict on which stock is cheaper today. They depend on share prices and forecast earnings at the time of the snapshot; estimates can change, and a lower multiple can reflect different expectations or risks. The cited comparison does not establish current prices or current valuation multiples.

- Memory cyclicality: Memory earnings can be sensitive to supply, pricing and demand. A strong quarter does not establish that margins will hold through a downturn.
- Capacity and competition: More industry capacity or competitors’ execution could pressure pricing or limit SK hynix’s ability to maintain its HBM position.
- Product-transition execution: A new generation such as HBM4 can create opportunity, but a production ramp still has to translate into dependable shipments and profitable sales.
- Customer and demand concentration: Long-term agreements may provide visibility, but the company has not disclosed enough detail in the cited release to quantify their protection against weaker demand.
- Valuation assumptions: Forward multiples and growth forecasts are estimates, not guarantees. The cited article’s valuation snapshot should not be mistaken for a current quote or a forecast that will necessarily be met.
What should an investor verify before acting?
For U.S. readers, Nasdaq identifies the American depositary shares under ticker SKHY; the Nasdaq page cited here did not return quote data. Check a live, reliable quote and current company filings rather than relying on a stale price or multiple. Then assess the latest HBM shipment and revenue-share estimates separately, the pace and economics of the HBM4 ramp, customer disclosures, and how much of the valuation depends on continued AI-related demand. These are research questions, not a recommendation to buy or sell.
