Nortel appointed John Roese as its chief technology officer in June 2006. He joined the company from Broadcom, where he was vice president and CTO for networking technologies.
Who did Nortel appoint as CTO?
The appointee was John Roese. EE Times reported the appointment on June 22, 2006, describing Roese as a recognized authority on network convergence and emerging technologies. That description is the publication’s characterization, not a quotation from Roese or Nortel.
What was Roese’s role at Broadcom?
Before joining Nortel, Roese served at Broadcom as vice president and CTO for networking technologies. The report identifies that prior position but does not detail his new responsibilities at Nortel.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The contemporaneous report establishes the appointment and Roese’s Broadcom role. It does not explain Nortel’s reason for hiring him, describe the scope of the CTO position, or state what business or product impact the appointment was expected to have. The announcement alone therefore does not establish a change in Nortel’s technology strategy.
