Norman Reedus said the final week of filming The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was sad, but also felt like an accomplishment because the cast and crew had become a family and had told the story they set out to tell. At a New York Comic Con press conference on Oct. 9, 2026, Reedus and Melissa McBride reflected on their 15-year journey portraying Daryl and Carol.
Why the final week felt like an accomplishment
Reedus described the last week of filming as “super-weird,” saying the ending brought sadness as well as satisfaction. The cast and crew had become a “really big family,” he said, particularly while working overseas among unfamiliar people and places. His sense of accomplishment came from completing the story the team intended to tell—not from suggesting that production was easy or that everyone experienced the ending in the same way.

Executive producer David Zabel distinguished three moments: McBride’s final scene, Reedus’s final scene, and the last scene the two actors performed together. They were separate milestones, not one shared final scene.

“There were three things: there was Melissa’s last scene and there was Norman’s last scene and there’s the last scene they did together.”
McBride added that Reedus’s final scene was also the production’s last shot:
“And Norman’s last scene was the last shot we ever shot as a show.”

Both remarks were made at the same New York Comic Con press conference and were reported by UPI. The distinction matters: Zabel described three separate scene-related milestones, while McBride identified Reedus’s scene as the final shot filmed.

When the final season premieres and where to watch
AMC’s official series page lists the fourth and final season for February 2027 and names AMC and AMC+ as exclusive destinations. The page gives a month, not a specific premiere day; it also does not specify territory, so streaming access may depend on where you live.
In an Oct. 9, 2026 announcement, AMC said The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was included in AMC+’s Walking Dead Universe Collection and confirmed that season four would be the final season. The announcement separately said all seasons of the original The Walking Dead would become available on AMC+ beginning Jan. 7. That catalog addition concerns the original series; it is not the premiere date for the Daryl Dixon finale season.
