The June 2022 NOPA-member soybean crush was forecast at an average of 164.484 million bushels in a Reuters survey of eight analysts. That was a survey estimate, not the final reported figure. Reuters published the preview on July 14, 2022, ahead of NOPA’s scheduled report the following day.
What did the June 2022 estimate show?
The survey average was 3.9% below NOPA-member crush of 171.077 million bushels in May 2022, but 7.9% above 152.410 million bushels in June 2021. The estimates ranged from 160.700 million to 168.150 million bushels, with a median of 165.000 million. These figures are all monthly NOPA-member crush measures or estimates, not totals for all U.S. processors. Reuters’ July 14, 2022 preview reported the survey average, range, median, and comparisons.
Why was crush expected to ease?
Analysts cited seasonal plant maintenance and tighter supplies from the previous autumn harvest. June is normally one of the slower months for soybean processing, according to the Reuters preview. That explanation describes the expected month-to-month decline; it does not establish the final June result or quantify how much each factor contributed.
What does the NOPA crush report cover?
NOPA describes its report as containing data from 20 member companies that account for 99% of the U.S. soybean crush. The report includes crush and oil-stock information, as well as soybean meal and oil production and yield data, with current-month, prior-month, year-earlier, and regional information. NOPA says Refinitiv is the report’s sole distributor. The 99% figure is NOPA’s description of report-member coverage; it should not be read as proof that this particular survey estimate equals all U.S. crush. NOPA’s monthly report page provides its description.

When was the estimate due to be checked?
The Reuters preview said NOPA’s report was expected Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. CDT (1600 GMT). The eight-person survey’s analysts were not identified, and Reuters did not publish their individual estimates. Accordingly, the average, range, and median are survey statistics—not a tally of eight named forecasts or a substitute for the subsequent report.
Is this a current soybean-crush forecast?
No. The 164.484-million-bushel figure concerns a single month in 2022 and was a survey estimate published in July of that year. It should not be compared as though it were a current monthly forecast with USDA marketing-year projections. For context, USDA’s June 2026 outlook projected 2.65 billion bushels for the 2025/26 marketing year and 2.75 billion for 2026/27—annual projections, not monthly NOPA-member observations. USDA Economic Research Service, Oil Crops Outlook: June 2026, published June 15, 2026, gives those outlook figures.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- HEIRLOOM VARIETY & HIGH YIELD: Outsidepride soy bean seeds is a robust heirloom strain known for its high yield, producing over 3 bushels per acre more than the popular Manokin variety, making it a valuable choice for maximizing harvest output. This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
- RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. These soybeans can be processed into a wide range of products, including soy milk powder, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, and various industrial non-food products, showcasing its versatility. Ideal for making various soy-based meals such as edamame snacks.
- OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.
- HIGH-PROTEIN ANIMAL FEED: The high-protein fiber left after oil extraction is ideal for animal feed, particularly for poultry and swine industries, which consume over half of the processed soybean meal. This meal is also crucial for cattle, other farm animals, and pets, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
- ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
