The answer depends on whether you mean CME cash trading, a USDA regional spot report, or USDA’s national wholesale series—and on the report date and price basis. As of October 8, 2026, the latest listed CME report was dated October 7, but its price was not available in the index; the latest Central/East report shown was for September 21–25. Neither listing alone supports an exact current quote.
Which nonfat dry milk price do you mean?
NDM is a dairy ingredient traded in wholesale markets, but its published prices come from distinct series. They differ in coverage and methodology, so do not compare them as if they were one continuous price record.
| Benchmark | What it represents | Scope and basis | Reporting schedule |
|---|---|---|---|
| USDA AMS CME Group cash trading | Short-horizon exchange cash benchmark | NDM cash trading; report’s exact price should be read from the release | Daily report; weekly averages issued Friday or the week’s last trading day |
| USDA AMS regional Dairy Market News | Spot-market prices and market conditions | Separate Central/East and West reports; prices in U.S. dollars per pound FOB | Weekly, generally Thursday in nonholiday weeks |
| USDA NDPSR, as reported by ERS | Weighted average of qualified domestic transactions | National wholesale price, FOB plant, in U.S. dollars per pound | Weekly price observations |
USDA AMS describes the Central/East report as covering spot prices, production, sales trends, inventories, and market tone. Its information is collected confidentially from manufacturers, end users, brokers, and traders. AMS also lists a separate West report; California’s separate NDM report was discontinued after Report 49 in 2018.
What is the current nonfat dry milk price?
As of October 8, 2026, USDA AMS’s index listed a final Nonfat Dry Milk—CME Group—Cash Trading report published October 7, 2026. The index did not expose the report’s value, so the exact October 7 CME cash price is not established here. The USDA AMS Central/East NDM report page showed a release for September 21–25, published September 24, as its latest release; the price values were not retrieved. Check the underlying release for the figure rather than treating an index entry as a quote.

Recent USDA wholesale prices: dated history, not today’s quote
USDA Economic Research Service’s June 2026 outlook reported these NDPSR national wholesale observations. Both are FOB plant prices, calculated from weighted averages of qualified domestic transactions:

Keep forecasts separate from market transactions
USDA ERS’s June 2026 outlook revised its average NDM price forecast for 2026 downward by 7 cents to $1.700 per pound. That is an annual forecast, not a current quote, weekly observation, or transaction price.

How to find and report a quote correctly
- Choose the series that fits the question: CME cash for its exchange cash benchmark, AMS regional Dairy Market News for regional spot conditions, or NDPSR for a national weighted wholesale series.
- Open the specific dated report, not just a results listing. The October 7, 2026 CME index entry verifies that a final report was listed, but does not provide its exact price.
- Write down the region or national scope, report date or week ending, price in USD per pound, and basis such as FOB or FOB plant. Retain whether the figure is observed or forecast.
- Do not substitute a CME futures settlement for a CME cash report, or combine regional spot data with national NDPSR observations without clearly labeling the different series.
USDA AMS’s MPR Data Mart also provides a National Dairy Products Prices weekly report selection for NDM prices and sales. The MPR Data Mart is another route to the weekly national series.

USDA’s market benchmarks describe wholesale commodity pricing under their stated reporting bases. They do not tell you what a shopper pays for a retail package, nor do they establish a delivered price for a particular bulk order. Package size, supplier, freight, contract terms, and transaction details can make a purchase price differ from a market benchmark; a retail or supplier quote should be identified separately rather than presented as the NDM commodity price.
