Yes, Nissan’s VC-Turbo engine recall grew in 2026, but official campaign counts do not establish a verified total of more than 600,000 unique vehicles. The 2026 engine campaign, NHTSA recall 26V080, expands the 2025 bearing-related campaign and lists 323,917 potential units; it is not a separate population that can simply be added to the earlier campaign’s 443,899. Owners should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) and arrange any required repair with a dealer, at no charge.
What the recall expansion means
The figures refer to recall campaigns, not necessarily distinct vehicles. NHTSA’s July 1, 2025 notice for campaign 25V437 listed 443,899 potentially affected vehicles. Its February 18, 2026 notice for campaign 26V080 lists 323,917 potential units and explicitly says the campaign expands 25V437. The notices do not provide a deduplicated total across the original campaign and its expansion, so adding those figures would not establish how many unique vehicles are affected.
A third campaign, 26V081, is for a separate electronic throttle-body defect. It lists 318,781 potential units among certain Rogues, but those vehicles must not be added to the engine-recall figures as if all populations were distinct. Its model years overlap with the engine campaigns.
Which vehicles are covered by each campaign?
| Campaign and date | Defect and vehicles | Potential units | Remedy described in the notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25V437 July 1, 2025 |
Potential bearing or related-component manufacturing defects in certain 2021–2024 Nissan Rogues, 2019–2020 Nissan Altimas, 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50s, and 2022 Infiniti QX55s equipped with designated 1.5L three-cylinder or 2.0L four-cylinder VC-Turbo engines. | 443,899, as listed by NHTSA for this campaign. | Free dealer inspection of the oil pan for specified metal debris; follow-up work depends on engine and inspection findings. |
| 26V080 February 18, 2026 notice |
Engine-oil breakdown and bearing-failure risk in certain 2023–2025 Nissan Rogues equipped with the 1.5L three-cylinder VC-Turbo engine. NHTSA says this campaign expands 25V437. | 323,917, as listed by NHTSA for this campaign. | Free dealer reprogramming, diagnostic-code inspection and test drive; oil-pan inspection and engine replacement may also be required. |
| 26V081 February 18, 2026 notice |
A separate defect involving electronic throttle-body gears that may break, affecting certain 2024–2025 Nissan Rogues and potentially causing loss of drive power. | 318,781, as listed by NHTSA for this campaign. This is not an engine-bearing campaign count. | Not stated in the cited campaign summary. |
Model year alone does not confirm that a specific vehicle is included. Engine, VIN, and whether a recall repair is still outstanding all matter.

What can happen if the engine develops the defect?
Symptoms described for the 2025 bearing campaign
Nissan’s report to NHTSA says bearing failures may progress rather than happen instantly. Possible signs include abnormal noise from the engine compartment, rough running, a malfunction indicator light, or warning messages in the instrument cluster. If the engine fails while driving, the vehicle may lose motive power, increasing crash risk.
Risk described for the 2026 expansion
For 26V080, NHTSA says increased temperatures can break down engine oil, which may cause engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure. The notice warns that a failure can cause loss of drive power and crash risk. It also says a bearing failure could breach the engine block, release hot oil, and increase the risk of fire. This is the mechanism stated for the 2026 campaign; it should not be treated as interchangeable with the broader manufacturing-defect description in the 2025 filing.

How to check a Nissan or Infiniti by VIN
- Find the 17-character VIN, usually visible through the windshield at the driver-side dashboard or on the driver-side door-jamb label.
- Enter it in Nissan’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s vehicle recall lookup. Infiniti owners should use the applicable Infiniti or NHTSA lookup.
- Review the results for each listed campaign and whether the repair is incomplete. A model-year match or a general news report cannot establish an individual vehicle’s status.
- Contact an authorized dealer with the VIN to confirm eligibility, parts and scheduling, and the required campaign-specific work.
NHTSA’s 26V080 notice listed February 27, 2026 as the planned date for VINs to become searchable and March 27, 2026 as the expected owner-letter date. Those dates were projections in the notice; they do not prove that any particular VIN has an open or completed repair. Check the current VIN result and confirm with a dealer.
What repair will the dealer perform, and is it free?
Recall inspection and remedy work described in the notices is free to owners. The exact work depends on campaign, engine, VIN, and what inspection finds.

Campaign 25V437
For the 2025 campaign, dealers inspect the oil pan for specified metal debris. If none is found, the remedy differs by engine: for the 1.5L engine, dealers replace the oil-pan gasket and engine oil and reprogram the engine control module; for the 2.0L engine, they replace the engine oil. If the specified debris is found and confirmed, Nissan’s report instructs the dealer to replace the engine.
Campaign 26V080
For the 2026 expansion, dealers reprogram the engine control module, check for diagnostic trouble codes, and test-drive the vehicle. They may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris and replace the engine if necessary.

U.S. NHTSA campaign counts should not be assumed to describe Canadian recall populations. Transport Canada’s Recall 2026055, last updated February 20, 2026, concerns certain vehicles with 1.5L variable-compression engines and describes abnormal noise and warning lights as possible signs. Its stated remedy is an ECM update, inspection, and engine replacement if necessary. Canadian owners should check the Canadian notice and use Nissan Canada’s VIN lookup: Nissan Canada recall lookup.
