Nintendo and The Pokémon Company sued Palworld developer Pocketpair in Tokyo on September 18, 2024, alleging patent infringement and seeking an injunction and damages. The allegations are not a court finding. A 2025 report said the plaintiffs narrowed their claims to older versions of the game; the available reporting does not establish what happened at a reported October 1, 2026 hearing or whether the court has issued a decision.
What Nintendo and The Pokémon Company allege
The Pokémon Company announced that it and Nintendo filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, in the Tokyo District Court on September 18, 2024. The plaintiffs said they were seeking an injunction and damages. Those are requested remedies, not proof that infringement occurred. The Pokémon Company’s announcement describes the filing and its stated claims.
Pocketpair’s account says the complaint identifies three patents and seeks an injunction against the game, as well as damages for part of the period between patent registration and filing. These details characterize Pocketpair’s report of the complaint; they should not be read as a court’s conclusion. Pocketpair’s public report provides its account.
What changed in the case
Automaton West reported that, after reviewing Tokyo District Court civil-case records, the plaintiffs revised the scope of their claims in November 2025 so that they applied only to older versions of Palworld. This is a reported procedural change, not a judgment on infringement and not evidence that either side has prevailed. Automaton West’s report describes the reported change.
