Nintendo attributed the change to “various changes in market conditions,” not specifically to tariffs. The company discussed tariffs separately when explaining a September sale that has since ended.
What does the Nintendo Switch 2 cost now?
Nintendo of America announced that the U.S. MSRP for the standalone Switch 2 system would rise to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. That is $50 more than the original $449.99 U.S. standalone MSRP announced at launch. These figures are manufacturer suggested retail prices, not a guarantee of what a retailer will charge at checkout.

Nintendo said the revision responds to “various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term.” Its announcement did not identify tariffs as the specific cause of the console price increase. Nintendo’s May 7, 2026 price-revision notice sets out the new MSRP and its stated rationale.
Did tariffs cause the $50 increase?
The available Nintendo statements do not establish that tariffs caused the Switch 2 MSRP increase or quantify any tariff cost passed on to console buyers. Nintendo’s price notice cites broader market-condition changes rather than naming tariffs.

In a separate September 10, 2026 announcement, Nintendo said tariff-related refunds helped make its Customer Appreciation Sale possible and that it absorbed most tariff-related costs. That statement concerns the promotion; it does not say tariffs caused the console’s MSRP revision. The sale ran from September 12 through September 26, 2026, and is over. Nintendo’s sale announcement describes its tariff-related explanation.
How the U.S. prices compare over time
| Price and product | When it applied | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone Switch 2: $449.99 MSRP | Launch price announced April 2, 2025 | Historical U.S. price; the former standalone MSRP used as the comparison baseline. |
| Standalone Switch 2: $499.99 MSRP | Effective September 1, 2026 | Revised announced U.S. MSRP; $50 above the former standalone MSRP. |
| Switch 2 with Mario Kart World: $499.99 | Bundle price announced April 2, 2025 | Historical U.S. launch bundle price, not evidence of the bundle’s current price or availability. |
Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 launch announcement gives the original standalone and bundle prices. Do not compare the old $499.99 bundle figure directly with today’s $499.99 standalone MSRP as though they were the same offer: one was a launch bundle, while the revised figure is for the console system alone.

What you may actually pay
The $499.99 figure is the announced U.S. standalone-system MSRP. A retailer’s checkout price, stock, and bundle contents may differ. Nintendo says offers can vary by retailer and sales channel, so check the seller’s current listing before budgeting or buying. Nintendo’s U.S. retail-offers page is a place to check available offers, but it does not make any particular retailer price universal.
