Nintendo attributed its price changes broadly to market conditions and its global business outlook, not specifically to tariffs. Tariffs could affect future pricing, but Nintendo has not announced another U.S. increase, and the available sources do not establish that tariffs caused the 2026 rise.
What does the Nintendo Switch 2 cost now?
Nintendo announced the price revisions on May 8, 2026. The announced effective dates have passed, so the revised figures below are in effect as of October 8, 2026. These are Nintendo’s published suggested retail prices, not a survey of retailer listings; retailers may set different prices.

The figures are not directly comparable across markets: the currencies differ, and the U.S. and Canada prices exclude tax while the Europe and Japan figures include it. Nintendo’s official May 8, 2026 price notice provides the announced changes and their timing.
Did tariffs cause the 2026 price increase?
Nintendo’s May 2026 notice said the price changes reflected market conditions and a global business outlook expected to affect the company over the medium to long term. It did not identify tariffs as the cause of the U.S. increase. The sources available do not quantify any tariff contribution to the revised MSRP, so attributing a specific amount—or the increase itself—to tariffs would go beyond what Nintendo has said.

What has Nintendo said about tariffs?
Launch-period comments in 2025
In an April 7, 2025 interview with WIRED, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said tariffs “weren’t factored into the pricing” of the console and that Nintendo was “actively assessing” their potential impact. These were comments from the U.S. launch period, when Nintendo had delayed U.S. preorders while it assessed tariffs and changing market conditions; they are not a current explanation for the 2026 price revision.
Tariffs as a possible cost and future pricing factor
In March 2026, Ars Technica reported Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa’s explanation of the company’s general approach: “Our basic policy is that for any country or region, if tariffs are imposed, we recognize them as part of the cost and incorporate them into the price.” He also said that if tariff assumptions change, Nintendo would consider appropriate price adjustments alongside market conditions and other factors.

That statement makes a future tariff-related adjustment possible, not certain. It does not announce another U.S. increase or show that tariffs drove the change already in effect. The reviewed sources do not establish Nintendo’s tariff costs for the units currently being sold, the tariff treatment by manufacturing origin, or a plan for a further U.S. price change.

What buyers should take from the increase
- For a U.S. budget: use $499.99 as Nintendo’s current tax-exclusive suggested retail price, then account for applicable sales tax. A store’s listing, tax, and stock can differ from Nintendo’s MSRP.
- For the reason behind the change: Nintendo cited market conditions and its longer-term global business outlook. A tariff contribution has not been confirmed or measured in the sources cited here.
- For possible future changes: Nintendo’s stated policy leaves room to reconsider prices if tariff assumptions change, but there is no announced further U.S. increase to plan around.
