Beginning with preorders in May 2026 for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Nintendo says new Nintendo-published digital games exclusive to Switch 2 can have a different MSRP from their physical versions. That policy does not mean every game or retailer will use different prices.
Why the “unchanged prices” claim is outdated
At the US launch in 2025, Nintendo listed Mario Kart World at $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99, with those launch MSRPs applying to both formats. Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 announcement also said prices could be adjusted in the future depending on market conditions. Those launch examples were not a promise that physical and digital prices would remain the same for later releases. Nintendo’s 2025 US launch-pricing announcement

What Nintendo’s later policy covers
Nintendo’s support policy says that starting with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 will have an MSRP different from physical versions. The scope matters: this is not a blanket statement about third-party publishers, every Switch 2 game, or all games already on sale.
Nintendo says the game experience is the same in packaged and digital formats, and explains the price distinction as reflecting different production and distribution costs. It also says retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing may vary by title. So an MSRP difference is not necessarily the price gap a shopper will see at a particular retailer. Nintendo Support: About Nintendo Switch 2 Game Pricing

What is known about Yoshi and the Mysterious Book pricing
Nintendo’s US listing gives Yoshi and the Mysterious Book a digital price of $59.99 and a release date of May 21, 2026. The official listing reviewed here does not establish the physical MSRP, so the digital figure alone cannot show the size of any physical-versus-digital difference. Check a current official or retailer listing for the physical edition and the price available in your region. Nintendo’s US game announcement and listing

Nintendo also announced regional Switch 2 system MSRP increases in 2026. These are console prices, not a change to game pricing, and the tax basis and dates differ by region.

How to compare the price of a specific game
- Confirm the edition and scope. Check whether the title is a new Nintendo-published game exclusive to Switch 2; that is the stated scope of the digital-MSRP policy.
- Compare like with like. Look at the same game, region, and edition in packaged and digital formats rather than comparing launch-era prices for different titles.
- Separate MSRP from checkout price. Retailers set their own prices, so compare the current listings and any delivery costs or taxes that apply to your purchase.
- Check date and availability. Prices can change, and launch MSRPs do not guarantee a current price or stock.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
