Nifty’s October 13 setup was cautiously positive at the open, not a confirmed bullish trend. A premarket GIFT Nifty indication pointed to a higher start, and The Times of India later reported that the NIFTY 50 opened at 22,437, up 73.95 points, or 0.33%. But the index had fallen the previous day, and analysts cited weakening momentum, nearby support at 22,300 and risks that could keep trading volatile. The available figures establish the reported open, not the session’s closing outcome.
What the October 13 Nifty outlook showed
The starting point was a weak October 12 session: the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) showed the NIFTY 50 closing at 22,363.35, down 157.10 points, or 0.70%. That decline matters because it tempers the significance of a higher premarket indication: a positive opening signal does not by itself reverse the previous session’s weakness.

Before the October 13 session, GIFT Nifty was quoted around 22,423. Livemint reported at 06:45 IST that this was nearly 41 points above the prior Nifty futures close, signaling a possible positive start. Separately, the NSE displayed GIFT Nifty futures at 22,423.50 at 02:29 IST on October 13. That NSE figure is a timestamped snapshot, not a live quote for the rest of the day.

The Times of India subsequently reported an opening level of 22,437 for the NIFTY 50, up 73.95 points, or 0.33%. This is a reported cash-index opening figure; it is not interchangeable with a GIFT Nifty futures quote. Nor does the opening figure establish where the index traded later or how it closed.

Support and resistance levels analysts cited
The technical levels published on October 13 differed by source. Treat them as attributed analyst opinions for that session, not as guaranteed turning points or a single agreed forecast.
| Source and context | Support | Resistance | Analyst view |
|---|---|---|---|
| Livemint, premarket report on October 13, quoting Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities | 22,300; if it broke, downside could extend toward 22,100 or lower | 22,420 and 22,650 | De said a dark cloud cover pattern suggested the previous session’s positive momentum was losing strength. |
| The Times of India, October 13 live coverage | 22,300 | 22,800 and 22,900 | The report gave these levels as its technical outlook; it did not make them certain outcomes. |
Both reports identified 22,300 as support, but their resistance levels were not the same. Livemint’s 22,420 level was close to the premarket GIFT Nifty indication, while The Times of India cited higher resistance at 22,800 and 22,900. Because the reports present separate technical assessments, it would be misleading to combine their resistance figures into one consensus range. The reported opening at 22,437 also does not show whether any resistance level held or was sustained through the session.

Why a positive open could still be volatile
Livemint quoted Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, as saying: “Indian equities are likely to remain volatile and cautious as elevated crude oil prices, mounting inflation concerns and escalating geopolitical tensions weigh on investor sentiment.” The Times of India also highlighted crude prices, foreign investor selling, retail inflation, geopolitical developments, monetary-policy expectations and weakness in global markets as risk factors.

The cautious interpretation is therefore compatible with a higher opening: the futures indication and reported open were positive, while the preceding decline, technical warning and broader risks argued against treating that start as a reliable all-day direction.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the futures signal
The NSE describes NIFTY futures contracts as based on the NIFTY 50 benchmark. A futures quote can help indicate how the market is positioned before the cash index opens, but a dated quote remains only a snapshot. It is not the cash index’s closing price, a promise about the next move, or evidence that a trade will be profitable.
- Keep instruments distinct: compare GIFT Nifty futures with futures figures and the NIFTY 50 cash index with cash-index figures.
- Keep timestamps attached: the NSE’s 22,423.50 display was recorded at 02:29 IST, while Livemint’s premarket report was published at 06:45 IST. Neither figure should be presented as a quote valid throughout the session.
- Separate forecasts from reported prices: the analyst support and resistance levels were outlooks; 22,437 was the opening level reported by The Times of India.
- Do not infer a close from an open: the cited reports establish an opening and premarket context, not the October 13 closing outcome.
For a reader asking whether the forecast was bullish, the most defensible answer is: positive for the opening indication, cautious for the broader setup. The figures do not establish a dependable trading strategy or say what level of risk is suitable for any individual investor.
