There is no reliable, publicly established current figure for Nicolas Sarkozy’s total net worth in the sources available. The clearest evidence consists of official asset declarations from 2007 and 2012, plus later reporting on his income and declared real-estate assets. Those amounts describe different things and cannot be combined into a verified net-worth total.
Why there is no dependable current net-worth figure
A net-worth calculation requires a dated accounting of assets minus liabilities across the relevant categories. The public records and reporting cited here do not provide a current, consolidated calculation for Sarkozy. In particular, a year’s income is not a balance-sheet value, and net real-estate assets are only one category of wealth.

The distinction matters because widely repeated net-worth estimates are not established by the records summarized here. No original-publisher statistic in these sources supplies an authoritative current total. A precise figure should therefore not be presented as verified.
What the official declarations say
Sarkozy’s declarations are historical snapshots, not present-day balance sheets. The French High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (HATVP) explains that a candidate’s asset declaration is a “photographie” of what the candidate possessed on 1 January 2017. It is neither an income-tax declaration nor an ISF wealth-tax declaration. The scope includes the filer’s assets and assets held jointly under the applicable marital regime, but not a spouse’s separate assets. HATVP’s 22 March 2017 explanation sets out these limits.
#1 Best Overall
2007 declaration
Published in the Journal officiel on 11 May 2007 and signed on 17 March 2007, the declaration listed no real estate. It included life-insurance contracts valued at €135,679 with Neuflize Vie and about €1.906 million in Société Générale contracts, along with bank and savings accounts. It also listed an Austin Mini valued at approximately €15,000 and a 34% interest in the law firm SELAS Arnaud Claude Nicolas Sarkozy. The filing recorded a personal guarantee related to a company loan and two loans for apartment decoration. These were individual entries, not a published net-worth total. Read the 2007 declaration in the Journal officiel via Légifrance.
2012 declaration
Published in the Journal officiel on 24 March 2012 and signed on 15 March, the declaration listed life-insurance contracts of €2,306,445 with HSBC France and €277,589 with Neuflize OBC. It also listed a joint bank account of €56,919 and collections estimated at €100,000, including autographs, watches and statuettes; stamps were described as having sentimental value. As in 2007, the declaration listed no real estate, but it did disclose a 34% interest in SELAS CSC, maintenance payments and a personal guarantee for a company loan. It did not calculate consolidated net worth. Sarkozy signed the declaration with the statement: “Je certifie sur l’honneur l’exactitude et la sincérité des présentes déclarations.” Read the 2012 declaration in the Journal officiel via Légifrance.

What later reporting adds—and what it does not
Le Monde reported on 10 November 2025 that, at a court hearing, the court president recited Sarkozy’s 2023 receipts as follows:
| Measure reported | Amount | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Salary | €637,791 | 2023 income recited at the hearing |
| Pension | €152,906 | 2023 income recited at the hearing |
| Investment income | €1,331,056 | 2023 income recited at the hearing |
| Non-commercial income | €2,342,008 | 2023 income recited at the hearing |
| Total receipts | €4,541,512 | Reported total for 2023 income, not net worth |
The same account said he paid €77,751 in alimony and had declared net real-estate assets of €9,923,874 in 2024. That property figure is not a valuation of all assets minus all liabilities, and the 2023 receipts are annual income; neither can stand in for total net worth. Le Monde’s account of the 10 November 2025 hearing is the source for these reported figures.

Separately, Le Monde reported on 22 October 2025 that investigators’ calculations said Sarkozy and his wife “could have benefited from up to €19.41 million in income” between May 2013 and April 2019, including €6.06 million in 2018. This is an investigative estimate of possible income for the couple, not a court finding of net worth or a verified asset valuation. The report also cited board remuneration from company annual reports: €118,750 from Lagardère in 2024, €88,760 from Lagardère in 2025, and €82,582 from Accor in 2024. Those are dated remuneration figures, not the value of assets. Le Monde’s 22 October 2025 report describes these income sources and figures.

How to read claims about Sarkozy’s wealth
- Check the date: a 2007 or 2012 declaration cannot establish what Sarkozy owns today.
- Identify the measure: income, net property assets, individual asset values and total net worth are not interchangeable.
- Check whose finances are covered: the 2013–2019 estimate concerns Sarkozy and his wife, while the official declaration rules distinguish the filer’s assets, jointly held assets and a spouse’s separate assets.
- Check the source and status: a signed declaration, a figure recited at a hearing and an investigators’ estimate are different kinds of evidence.
