Tina Kotek’s reelection campaign in late September 2026, according to an October 6 report by Willamette Week. The report also says he gave $150,000 to the political arm of the Downtown Metro Chamber. Those reported contributions warrant checking against Oregon’s official campaign-finance filings; the available reporting does not establish a complete recipient list or show that the donations changed policy.
What Willamette Week reported
In its October 6, 2026 report, Willamette Week said Swickard contributed $100,000 to Kotek’s reelection campaign the preceding week. The publication described it as his largest Oregon donation. It also reported that he had given the campaign $50,000 in September 2025.
The same article reported a separate $150,000 contribution to the political arm of the Downtown Metro Chamber. The figures here are the publication’s reported amounts, not totals independently recalculated from transaction records. The article also said Kotek had raised $13.5 million in 2026 as of its publication date; that is a report-date figure, not a final year-end total.
Who Swickard is—and what the reporting establishes
Willamette Week described Swickard as a Nevada resident who operates 54 auto dealerships and has entered Portland real-estate development. That context identifies his business ties, but it does not establish why he made the contributions or what he expects in return.

A Rose Light index entry for an OregonLive story says Swickard has donated to Oregon political campaigns across party lines. The index does not supply a recipient-level accounting, so it is not enough to identify particular candidates or committees, calculate a total, or describe his giving as a complete pattern. Those claims require the original reporting and transaction records.
How to verify the contributions in Oregon records
The Oregon Secretary of State directs the public to ORESTAR for campaign-finance information. Search the contributor name, then inspect the underlying transactions and committee filings rather than treating a search-result snippet as confirmation. The state’s campaign-finance search guidance explains where to look; the ORESTAR transaction search is the official search interface.

- Search ORESTAR for “Jeff Swickard” as the contributor.
- Review transaction dates, amounts, recipient committees and any amended filings. Check that the dates align with the late-September 2026 and September 2025 contributions reported by Willamette Week.
- Identify the formal name of the Downtown Metro Chamber-related political committee from its filing before describing its endorsements, expenditures or role.
- Keep direct contributions to a candidate committee distinct from donations to a political organization, endorsements and independent spending. They are different kinds of political activity.
The Secretary of State’s guidance says some candidates do not have to register a committee when their receipts or expenditures are no more than $1,500 in a year. Federal candidates file with the Federal Election Commission, not Oregon’s state system. A state search therefore should not be treated as a complete record of every kind of political giving.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the available figures do—and do not—show
The reported $100,000 Kotek contribution, $50,000 prior contribution and $150,000 chamber-related contribution are distinct entries involving different recipients or reporting periods. They should not be combined into a broader claim about Swickard’s political giving without reviewing the underlying filings and defining which transactions are included.
