NetApp announced the agreement on January 12, 2011, and completed the acquisition on January 31. Its fiscal 2011 filing records a cash purchase price of $62.3 million; NetApp’s completion announcement described it as approximately $60 million.
What NetApp acquired
Akorri Networks was a privately held data-center management software company based in Littleton, Massachusetts. Its flagship product, BalancePoint, analyzed performance and capacity across virtualized, shared IT infrastructure, giving organizations a view across applications, servers, networks, and storage.
NetApp said BalancePoint could help identify performance bottlenecks and improve storage-capacity planning. The acquisition announcement also described automated analysis spanning virtual and physical servers and storage. The value to NetApp was therefore broader infrastructure visibility, not the acquisition of storage hardware.
What the acquisition cost
NetApp’s fiscal 2011 Form 10-K records a $62.3 million cash purchase price for 100% of Akorri’s outstanding shares. In its February 1, 2011 completion announcement, NetApp rounded the amount to approximately $60 million. These are two descriptions of the same deal: the filing provides the more precise recorded figure, while the public announcement uses an approximation. NetApp’s acquisition announcement and fiscal 2011 Form 10-K document the transaction.

These accounting details describe how NetApp recorded the acquisition; they are not additional amounts to add to the purchase price.
Why NetApp wanted Akorri
NetApp presented the acquisition as a way to add performance-and-capacity analytics to its management software portfolio and help customers understand shared infrastructure more completely. The completion announcement said BalancePoint complemented NetApp SANscreen. The acquisition announcement framed the deal as an extension of NetApp’s OnCommand management offering.

Later NetApp materials connect Akorri BalancePoint with the OnCommand product family. Historical NetApp naming references describe OnCommand Insight as formerly NetApp SANscreen and Akorri BalancePoint; a separate NetApp community response says OnCommand Balance was formerly called BalancePoint. These references show a product-lineage connection, but they do not establish that every BalancePoint capability, license, or support commitment continued unchanged.

NetApp documentation describes OnCommand Insight as an infrastructure analytics product with data acquisition, server-side analysis, a web interface, and reporting and data-warehouse components. It discusses use across hybrid, on-premises, public-cloud, and private-cloud environments. That describes the later product family, not necessarily the status or feature set of the original Akorri product. See NetApp’s Insight architecture documentation.
The available dated sources establish the acquisition and later naming references, but do not say whether the standalone Akorri BalancePoint product is currently sold or supported. Its present standalone status should therefore be treated as unresolved rather than assumed to be either active or discontinued.
