The last date to apply for NCERT’s 123 academic posts was August 27, 2024, after an extension reported by Scroll. The original deadline was August 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The application window is closed; “today” in the original headline referred to August 27, 2024, not the present date.
What was the NCERT recruitment 2024 deadline?
NCERT Advertisement No. 174/2024 opened online registration on July 27, 2024, for 123 academic positions. The advertisement initially set August 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. as the closing time. Scroll reported that NCERT extended the deadline through August 27, 2024. The Scroll report described August 27 as the last date to apply.
That deadline has passed. The recruitment was for direct appointments at NCERT in New Delhi and its constituent units in Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru and Shillong.
Which posts did the 123 vacancies cover?
The advertisement covered Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor positions, including Assistant Librarian. It was a recruitment for academic roles, not a single post with one set of qualifications: eligibility depended on the rank and subject or specialization.

What qualifications did the notice describe?
Advertisement No. 174/2024 referred candidates to the UGC/NCERT and Government of India norms applicable on the application closing date. Its broad criteria differed by rank; the summary below is not a substitute for the exact subject-specific requirements in the official notice.
| Rank or role | Broad eligibility described in the notice |
|---|---|
| Professor | PhD and either a specified record of research, publications and experience, or an outstanding-professional route. |
| Associate Professor | PhD, a master’s degree with at least 55%, and specified experience and publication requirements. |
| Assistant Professor, including Assistant Librarian | Generally, a relevant master’s degree with at least 55%, plus NET/SET or an applicable PhD-based exemption. |
The applicable subject, specialization, experience and publication criteria—and whether a NET/SET or PhD exemption route applied—needed to be checked against the relevant row of the official advertisement.

How did the application process work?
Applications were submitted online. The notice required a valid email address and mobile number, as well as scanned recent photographs, signatures and relevant documents. Applicants seeking more than one post had to submit a separate application and pay the applicable fee for each.
The fee was ₹1,000 for UR, OBC and EWS applicants, payable online. Women applicants and applicants in SC, ST and PwD categories were exempt under the notice. Fees already paid were non-refundable.
