Her concern—that long repayments and work may leave little time to enjoy a home—is worth considering, but the clip is an anecdote, not evidence that home loans generally prevent people from enjoying their homes.
What the Mumbai video showed
In a report published October 6, 2026, Hindustan Times identified Dubey as the woman who shared a video showing apparently empty common areas in a residential society on a Monday night. The footage, as described in the report, prompted her to question whether people buying expensive homes with large loans have enough time to use their homes and amenities.
Dubey said flats in the society cost crores and rents run into lakhs. Those are her claims: the outlet said it had not independently verified the user-generated content and did not endorse it. The report does not establish the society’s identity, prices, rents, typical occupancy, or residents’ schedules. An apparently quiet common area on one evening cannot show how busy the property is at other times.
What Dubey meant by a “home loan trap”
Hindustan Times attributed this warning to Dubey: “Most of the youth take home loans at a very young age, and then they spend their whole lives paying off the loan, and they are never able to enjoy that thing.” She also urged viewers to think carefully before making major financial decisions so they would not regret them later. These are her personal views, not verified findings or individualized financial advice.

The underlying question is practical: will the cost and demands of buying this home fit the life you expect to lead there? A loan can make a home purchase possible, but repayments, upkeep, and work commitments may compete with the time and money available to enjoy it. How that trade-off works depends on the buyer and the property; the video does not answer it for other borrowers.
How to assess whether a home loan fits your life
The report provides no loan offers, buyer budgets, property comparisons, or broader statistics on borrowers. It therefore cannot tell you what a suitable payment is or whether a particular purchase makes financial sense. For your own decision, assess the full commitment and the reasons you want the home.

- Budget for the whole cost. Consider the proposed repayment alongside other household expenses and the costs of owning and maintaining the property. Test the budget against realistic changes in income or expenses rather than assuming everything will stay constant.
- Think about time, not just the price. Estimate how long you expect to live there and how often you are likely to use the amenities that matter to you. A feature you rarely use may not justify paying more for it.
- Compare the commitment with your priorities. Consider what the repayment may leave you able to spend or save, and whether the home supports your plans for work, family, and daily life.
- Separate personal preference from evidence. One video can prompt useful questions, but it cannot establish what is typical for a society or for home-loan borrowers generally.
What the report does—and doesn’t—establish
The report supplies no named statistics or study figures about home-loan borrowers, housing affordability, or occupancy. It also gives no specific verified amounts for the prices and rents Dubey mentioned. Its evidence is limited to a user-generated video and her reported comments, with the outlet explicitly noting that it had not independently verified the claims. Treat the clip as a personal warning to consider affordability and use—not as proof that buying with a loan is inherently a trap.
