MrBeast estimated that more than 10,000 people were already in line ten minutes before opening. That figure is his estimate as reported at the time, not an audited attendance count, and the crowd was queued before the doors opened, not during the first ten minutes of business.
What the opening was
- Location: American Dream, East Rutherford, New Jersey. The official American Dream page calls it the world’s first MrBeast Burger restaurant.
- Opening date: September 4, 2022. Contemporary coverage followed on September 5 and 6.
- Format: A dine-in restaurant. It was a distinct venue from the brand’s delivery operation.
Where the crowd figure comes from
The headline’s “over 10,000 people” traces to a single attributed estimate. Bon Appétit reported in 2022 that MrBeast put the number of people already queuing ten minutes before opening at more than 10,000. Fortune and Bon Appétit confirmed the date and the attribution of that estimate. Neither outlet was counting the line itself, so the number should be read as a claim about the crowd, not a measured total.
The headline’s wording also compresses the timing. A more precise version is that more than 10,000 people were reportedly already in line ten minutes before opening.
The burger claims and the record question
Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, later posted on LinkedIn that more than 5,500 burgers were made for the grand opening. The post is his own account of production, and the sources reviewed do not include independent verification of that number.

Three formats that are easy to confuse
The brand’s history includes a temporary event, a permanent restaurant, and a virtual delivery concept. They are different things and should not be treated as one location.

The 2022 menu
The official American Dream page listed burgers, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, fries, and a Feastables chocolate bar. The page specified dine-in service only. Prices are not stated in the sources reviewed, and the menu reflects the 2022 listing rather than a current one.
What is not established today
The sources establish the 2022 opening, the crowd estimate, and the burger claim. They do not establish whether the American Dream restaurant is operating now, what its hours are, or whether the menu has changed. Check American Dream or the restaurant directly before planning a visit.

How to read viral business numbers
Opening-day crowds are marketing signals. They show demand for a novelty event, not revenue, margins, or how busy the location stayed in later months. When you see a headline number, check these four things:
- Who measured it: an organizer’s estimate, a journalist’s count, or an audited figure.
- What it counts: people in line, orders, units produced, or sales.
- When it was measured: before opening, during the day, or in a later follow-up.
- Whether a third party certified it: a record title only counts once the record body confirms it.
Applied to this story, the crowd estimate and the burger count are both useful as reported claims, and neither is a confirmed measurement.
