It is historical, not a verified Black Friday 2026 offer. As of August 18, 2026, the practical alternatives are a reported $549.99 unlocked Razr (2025) (potentially $449.99 after an eligible trade-in), or a Razr (2026) at $0 through qualifying T-Mobile or Verizon promotions that require service commitments.
What the original Black Friday deal actually was
Phandroid reported the Motorola Razr (2024) at $399 on November 25, 2025. The article described that price as roughly half the price of a competing Samsung flip phone at the time and cited a 6.9-inch internal AMOLED display plus a 3.6-inch external AMOLED display. See the original report at Phandroid.
That was a dated promotion for the 2024 model. There is no verified U.S. Black Friday 2026 Razr sale in the available information, so do not treat $399 as a checkout price today.
Current Razr offers to compare
| Offer | Advertised price | What you must do | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Razr (2025), Motorola direct | $549.99; reported $449.99 after a $100 trade-in credit | Eligible trade-in for the lower price; promotion may vary by location | Unlocked buyers seeking the lowest cash price |
| Razr (2026), T-Mobile | $0 for the 256GB model | Eligible Experience or Better Value plan and an added line; no trade-in was required in the reported offer | Customers who already want T-Mobile service or another line |
| Razr (2026), Verizon | $0 device cost versus $799.99 retail | New line on any myPlan, 36 months of device-payment bill credits at 0% APR | Verizon customers comfortable with a three-year commitment |
| Razr Ultra (2025), historical Black Friday | $898.99, potentially $811.49 with a unique 10% code | Historical 2025 promotion; not a current price | Reference point for premium pricing, not a live deal |
Unlocked Razr (2025): the straightforward value option
PhoneArena reported a Motorola direct-store price of $549.99, a possible additional $100 trade-in reduction and a reported free case valued at $50. That makes the reported handset price $449.99 before tax with a qualifying trade-in. Availability was location-dependent, so confirm the exact total in Motorola’s cart at Motorola’s Razr store. The promotion report is at PhoneArena.

This model uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7400X and 8GB of RAM. Its 6.9-inch OLED inner screen has 2640×1080 resolution, HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate. Coverage characterizes its cameras as weaker than those on pricier Razrs. It suits messaging, browsing, social media, streaming and casual photos; demanding gaming, camera-focused buyers and shoppers wanting the longest support runway should consider newer hardware.
Razr (2026) through T-Mobile
Android Central reported the 256GB standard Razr (2026) as free with an eligible Experience or Better Value plan and an added line, with no trade-in required in that offer. “Free” refers to carrier financing or promotional bill credits, not an unlocked phone with no continuing cost. Add the line, plan, taxes, surcharges and any activation fees to your calculation. Read the reported terms at Android Central.

Razr (2026) through Verizon
Verizon announced a stated $799.99 retail price reduced to $0 device cost with a new line on any myPlan for 36 months, using 0% APR Verizon Device Payments. The credits generally depend on keeping the qualifying line and account active for the full term. Leaving early or changing eligibility can leave a remaining device balance. Details are in Verizon’s announcement.
What you get with the standard Razr (2026)
Motorola lists a 4,800mAh battery, claimed battery life of more than 36 hours, 30W TurboPower charging, a titanium-reinforced hinge, IP48 protection and AI camera and Flex View features on its official product page. Battery runtime and durability statements are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. IP48 means limited dust and splash protection; it is not waterproofing or permission to expose the phone to grit or immersion.

When the Razr Ultra is worth the premium
The 2026 Razr Ultra is a premium clamshell, not simply a cheaper Razr. Motorola lists a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, up to 16GB of RAM, a 7-inch inner display, a 4-inch outer display, a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 68W wired charging, up to 30W wireless charging and 50MP main and ultrawide cameras. Storage reaches 512GB on the cited product page, while Motorola lists a 1TB Motorola.com-only configuration elsewhere. Specifications are at Motorola’s Ultra page and the alternate configuration page.
Pay extra only if flagship performance, cameras, storage, larger displays or faster charging matter more than the purchase price. Motorola states that the charger is sold separately, so include that cost.

Carrier unlocked device may retain original carrier logo on start up, while being fully unlocked
Do not confuse the Razr Fold with the flip phones
The Razr Fold (2026) is a book-style foldable with a tablet-like inner screen, not a pocket-sized clamshell. Best Buy lists an unlocked 512GB model with coverage identifying a $1,899 starting price; price and stock can change. See Best Buy’s listing.
Customer reviews on that listing mention that a stylus and charger may be excluded or costly and that the crease can remain visible from some angles. Those are individual-owner observations, not controlled tests. Choose the Fold only when multitasking and the large screen justify its much higher total cost.

Calculate the real cost before calling a phone “free”
- Unlocked purchase: start with the cash price, then add sales tax, a case and any separately sold charger.
- Trade-in purchase: use the final inspected credit, not the headline estimate. Motorola’s process can revise an initial quote after inspection; review the trade-in terms.
- Carrier promotion: total the required plan and added-line charges for all 36 months, plus activation fees, taxes and surcharges. Subtract only credits you can realistically receive while keeping the account eligible.
- Exit risk: check what happens to remaining device payments and credits if you cancel, port out or change plans.
Trade-in checklist
- Photograph the phone and its condition before shipping.
- Back up data, remove accounts and SIM cards, and factory-reset the device.
- Record the serial number and retain shipping and tracking proof.
- Read the inspection and revised-value policy before relying on the maximum credit.
Which Razr makes financial sense?
| Your priority | Best fit | Skip it if… |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest unlocked price | Reported Razr (2025) direct-store offer | You need top-tier cameras, gaming performance or maximum support life |
| Already adding a T-Mobile line | Razr (2026) promotional offer | You want an unlocked phone or do not need another line |
| New Verizon line | Razr (2026) 36-month offer | You may leave Verizon before credits finish |
| Best clamshell hardware | Razr Ultra | You are shopping for a bargain rather than premium specifications |
| Large productivity display | Razr Fold | You cannot absorb accessory and repair costs near a $1,899 starting price |
| Durability, cameras or long support are paramount | A conventional non-foldable flagship or midrange phone | You specifically value the compact folded form factor |
Checklist before ordering
- Confirm model year, storage and whether the phone is unlocked.
- Verify new, refurbished or open-box condition.
- Check the exact expiration date and geographic availability.
- Read trade-in condition rules and the return policy.
- For carrier deals, confirm new-line, plan and bill-credit duration requirements.
- Price the charger, case and (for the Fold) stylus separately.
- Review warranty, repair and foldable-screen coverage; no promotion guarantees hinge life or damage-free use.
The Bottom Line
The $399 Razr was an unusually aggressive 2025 Black Friday price on the Razr (2024), not a verified 2026 sale. For a purchase now, compare the reported $549.99 unlocked Razr (2025) against the full 36-month service cost of T-Mobile or Verizon’s Razr (2026) promotions. Choose the Ultra or Razr Fold only when their additional hardware and screen justify the higher total spend.
